I thin your best bet is to ask this on the AUS/NZ forum

www.morrisdownunder.com

They have done more of that sort of conversions, as the japanese cars of that (RWD) era are more plentiful there

Just because we let the Kiwi's visit, it doesn't mean they have naming rights  .

Yes, the 1200 conversion is very common but we fit the Datsun gearbox too.

I just wish we could get these old Datsun bits in the UK.

Rumour has it they pretty much bolt straight up no hassle, what with the Jap engines being a copy of the A series anyway.
What would Macgyver do..?

They must be around somewhere. They made millions of them !!

I wouldn't say they bolt straight in but it's a very easy/neat conversion.
The Datsun A Series engine is a copy of the engine used in the A40 Farina, not the BMC A series engine. It's such a good copy, some parts are even interchangeable between the Japanese & English motors

Why would the Austin A40 not be part of BMC?

I am very sure it was produced/designed after the merger in 1952

Sorry, I'm not really up on Austins. Thinking about it, the Farina is the small A40.
I have a feeling it's the A40 Devon maybe (the big round A40 with the hunchback boot if you know the one) that "donated" it's engine.

It's not a big issue. Maybe I should have just said A40 & left it at that  .
