How rare is a '72 Charger (or any Mopar after 1970) with a Gator top?

Very ODD!

1972 Charger (H-series)
with a JF5 paint code (J - '73 model year introduction) & F5?

"Spring Special" package or something? What's the top look like?

I thought Gator Grain was V1G???? Must be a different type of top it's coded for.

V1G is a full vinyl top, V4G is a 'halo' or front half vinyl top. The G color in 72 is called MOCK TURTLE but not sure what grain that would be. Weird name. The JF5 is a 72 color (F5) and is called Bright Yellow Green Poly. This is info from some PPG books at the local paint store. Either way, not many oddball grains of any reptile made throughout the years.

It's green gator.

The first brochure says the paint code is JF6 while the full color one says JF5 so it looks like a last minute change.

The top on the car is shot. It was advertised on Craigslist last month out in California for $2,500.

Hey guys. I just picked up a 72 Charger Topper X in unbelievable original condition. The paint is faded and the top is all there, but comming apart is some places where the grain does it's thing. The car is awesome and 100% complete. I bought it from the original owner and she's been in a garage since 1979.

At first I thought it was just a cool green Charger with a cool Gator top, but no I see it's something different. Are the 72 Charger Topper Xs something that should be restored original or is it just another option package that isn't all that rare?

Update on Gene Wolfes Topper X. After sitting in a garage since 1979, this amazing completely rust free car has been refreshed with new paint, correct vinyl gator top, new exhaust and working a/c, cop wheels and new tires. Drives great! I like the oddballs and so here it is in my stable now.
