US-Legal in 8 months: 1990 Nissan S-Cargo
This 1990 Nissan S-Cargo van is one of 12,000 made, and has only 107,117 Kilometers. These vans were made at Nissan’s Pike factory, along with the Figaro, Pao and Be-1 retro concept cars. The S-Cargo is influenced by the Citroen 2CV “Tin Snail” van, and manages to capture the quirkiness of the original, while featuring an automatic transmission, A/C, and 35 mpg. This S-Cargo has benefitted from much recent service and is said to be in excellent condition, and ready to drive. As a 1990 model, this S-Cargo will be US importable in 2015, under the 25-year exemption. Find it here on Craigslist in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada for $7500 CDN.
Pea Green Pair: 1954 Nash Ambassador Custom and 1939 Camp Trailer
This 1954 Nash Ambassador Custom comes paired with a 1939 camp trailer made by the Covered Wagon Company, which has been painted to match the car in what we’d call a period-correct two-tone mint green and dark green. The interior of the trailer is lined with its original curved wood walls and ceiling that looks to be in great shape, while the Nash enjoyed an engine rebuild less than 1000 miles ago. A little sorting looks like it’s in order, but otherwise, this one’s ready for next weekend. Find this one here on Craigslist in Portland, Oregon for $30k.
1964 Simca 1000
1975 Pinzgauer 710K Hardtop
This 1975 Pinzgauer 710K (VIN 5754034) is a rare hardtop version with a military-spec interior, and looks great in UN-spec white paint, which makes the truck look bigger than its diminutive dimensions suggest. The truck has sealed differential lockers front and rear that require minimal extra maintenance, while the air-cooled, 87 hp engine can handle speeds up to 68mph. Find this one here on eBay in Dumont, Colorado with no reserve.
Euro 1985 BMW M635CSi
Pre Injection: 1970 BMW 2002ti Alpina A2
This 1970 BMW 2002ti Alpina A2 is said to have been freshly built for circuit racing, though it’s unclear whether the whole chassis or just its motor are Alpina originals. Either way, factory documents are available and will clear any confusion. The car looks good with aggressive flares, wide, slick rubber on deep, negative offset alloys, and other cool touches like the deep airdam and two tone paint. Find it here on rally24.com somewhere in Belgium for 29,500 euros (~$40,757 today).
Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 Rally Raider
This Toyota Land Cruiser FJ45 based rally raid truck is an intriguing build, but few details are provided in the ad beyond that it comes with many spares, is provided by what sounds to be a 250HP V8 of some sort, and has partial polyester bodywork. We’ve never imagined a Land Cruiser on white OZ rally wheels, but have to admit they work surprisingly well—at least in this unusual context. Find it here on Rally24.com in France for 45k euros (~$62,267 today).
Clean A-body: 1965 Buick Skylark Convertible
This 1965 Buick Skylark convertible is described as a rust-free California-built car that’s been given a mild custom treatment. It has a new interior and mostly new or rebuilt parts elsewhere. One of 1,181 base Skylark verts built for ’65, it sports its original 300 CID V-8 and appears to be quite clean. Find it here on eBay in Aromas, California for $19,900 or “offer.”
1975 International Harvester 4×4 Pick-Up
This 1975 International Harvester pick-up is said to have 93,300 miles on it’s 304 V8 with a 4-speed manual trans and 4×4 capability. Inside the truck, the vinyl and cloth bench seat look clean with no visible rips or tears, and everything is said to work. The body looks to be straight apart from a spot of what could be rust on the driver’s side rocker, and the white steel wheels add to the truck’s rugged feel. Find it here on Craigslist in Garland, Texas for $8000.
Rally Prepped 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Sprint
This 1962 Alfa Romeo Giulia 1600 Sprint looks great in factory correct Bluette paint, and the long distance rally prep it’s been treated to is pretty cool as well. The car looks clean and sorted throughout, and though the modern Recaro seats aren’t period correct they’re forgivable considering the car’s current competition setup. Find it here at Very Superior Old Cars in Sassenheim, Netherlands for 42,500 euros (~$59,020 today).
Clean and Original 1986 Toyota Soarer Twin-Turbo
This 1986 Toyota Soarer is a RHD non-USA model recently imported and believed by the seller to be one of four known Soarers in the USA (if true, we have featured the 3 others). This one features an intercooled 1G-GTE twin-turbo engine and 5-speed manual with 91k miles, and no modifications apart from a boost gauge. The seller claims this to be the cleanest Soarer in the US, and by the looks of the car we have to agree. Find it here on Craigslist in Frederick, Maryland for $11,500.
Perfect Enough: 1960 Porsche 356B
This 1960 Porsche 356B (chassis 111668) is a clean, non-original driver with mild outlaw details that helps keep it . The seller has included scores of photos detailing every angle and flaw on his Photobucket page, . Find it here on The Samba in Ventura County, California, for $48,000.
1992 Alpine A610
This 1992 Alpine A610 is a rare example of the final model made by the company before production ended three years later. It looks fantastic in medium, grayish blue over black leather, and the aftermarket gold faced snowflake wheels are a good match as well—original are also included. Number 494 of 818 built, it looks to be in very good condition and is said to be ready to drive after recent servicing. Find it here on SelectRallyCars.ES in Spain for 36k euros (~$49,813 today).
1972 Ford Escort MkI Rally Car
This 1972 Ford Escort MkI rally car is described as a competitive example that’s taken 1st place on more than one occasion. Said to have undergone a full rebuild three events ago, it’s currently prepped for forest/gravel use but the seller says it can easily be converted for tarmac duty as well. Powered by a 142 HP, 1600 CC crossflow four, the listing contains a lot of spec details and is worth a read. Find it here on Motorsport-Sales.com somewhere in the UK for 13,500 GBP (~$22,718 today).
1972 Datsun Pick-Up
This 1972 Datsun truck is in remarkably nice condition for the age, having been repainted a few years ago. The black spray-on bedliner in the bed and cab looks a bit jarring against the light green finish, but will likely preserve this truck beyond most. The venerable L16 four cylinder should run forever with no worries, and the single Weber carb is a worthy upgrade. We love the simplicity of these early trucks, and wish more could still be found in solid running condition. Find it here on eBay in Ripon, California.
1964 Mercedes Benz Fintail Wagon
This 1964 Mercedes Benz Fintail Wagon (chassis 1100001207063) was built by the custom coachbuilder Binz, and is based on a W110 190C fintail sedan platform. The original 4-cylinder engine was replaced with a 6-cylinder unit out of a 230 that is said to run and shift very well. The Beige Gray paint has a military feel to it in its blandness, but is still serviceable, and works on this curious high-roof body. The 15″ wheels and caps, however, are the perfect touch. Find this one here on eBay in Portland, Oregon with no reserve.
40-Years-Owned 1961 Fiat 500
This 1961 Fiat 500 is described as a 22k-mile example in running condition that’s been with the same owners since the 1970s. Reportedly a family grocery-getter that never saw long trips, it has slight floor pan rust on one side and some cosmetic scuffs and scratches but looks clean overall. Find it here on Craigslist in Portland, Oregon for $5k OBO.
1969 DAF 55 Coupe
This 1969 DAF 55 coupe is described as an original, unrestored, 33k-mile example imported from France last year. It’s said to have a clear Arizona title and current registration and has been on Craigslist for a few weeks for more cash, but was recently put on eBay. An unusual sight on these shores, these Dutch-built cars were designed by Michelotti and had an 1100cc engine with a Variomatic CVT transmission. Find it here on eBay in Phoenix, Arizona, with a $12.9k BIN
Accurate Lotus Super Seven Series 1 Replica
This Lotus Super Seven Series 1 replica is said to have been a professional build based on factory chassis and body drawings. It definitely looks convincing, and is even powered by a Coventry Climax motor. Other drivetrain components include an unspecified MG gearbox and Nash Metropolitan rear axle, and the car is said to be lots of fun to drive and built to a high, craftsman standard. Find it here on TradeMe.nz in New Zealand for $20,500 NZD or near offer (~$17,702 today).
BaT Exclusive: Restored 1966 Wolseley Hornet MkII
4/18/2014 Update: This Wolseley has been sold!
4/18/2014 Update: This Wolseley remains available and the seller has now dropped the price to $15,950. He also notes that the exterior color is a very pale green and not the white we had indicated.
From 4/6/2014:
This 1966 Wolseley Hornet MkII (chassis W-A2S2/829260) was purchased by the seller as a driving project back in 2008. Since then it’s received an extensive body restoration with metalwork including new A panels, front floorpans. The car looks very clean and straight in photos and the BRG roof over pale green is a nice color combo. An 1100 cc motor replaces the original 998 unit and looks identical to the factory setup, and the seller has executed several other nice driveability upgrades detailed further below. It is now available in Seattle, Washington for $18,000.
