This 1936 Plymouth P2 Business Coupe is in its 80th year on the road and was restored 20 years ago, at which time it was a straight, solid, original car. Presented in Middy Blue paint and tan interior, the car retains its original Plymouth straight-6 which was rebuilt about 8 years ago. 750 miles have been added since the rebuild, mostly driving to local classic car events. The car is stock other than the added directional signals/hazard flashers and a Pertronix ignition upgrade. The car comes with a clean Washington title from the seller and represented by a Dealer/Consigner and BaT regular.

The all steel body panels are straight and show no indentations or dings, even on the stylish beaded fenders. The Middy Blue paint, even though 20 years old, still shows nice luster. Although minimal on these old coupes, the chrome is said to be in very nice condition.

The hood sides wear chrome tear drops with 3 speed lines and sailing ship atop the radiator look great and help give the car a streamlined look. The car sports a crank-out windshield and vacuum operated windshield wipers. The exterior shows tastefully added directional signal lighting and 4-way flashers for safety reasons and is said to be one of two modifications to the car.

Inside the spartan cabin the contrasting tan interior shows a comfortable looking upholstered bench seat and matching tan metal dash featuring a large all-in-one gauge, with each sub-gauge said to function properly.

The seating, door panels and headliner all look to be good driver quality. The massive trunk has a solid floor underneath a shabby looking carpet. The simplicity of the interior functions seems refreshing with the car’s 6-Volt positive ground system retained that was pre-war standard.

An optional period style interior heater is fitted and said to work well making for comfortable cool weather driving. The retrofitted directional signal unit is mounted on the steering column in the expected position. Original style rubber matting is fitted over solid floors.

The Business coupe is powered by its original 201 cubic inch in-line 6, producing 82 HP when new and is said to have been rebuilt about 8 years ago with a new clutch installed at that time. The stock transmission is a 3-speed manual, and said to shift smoothly with a non-synchromesh first gear. A total of about 750 miles have been put on the motor since the rebuild, is said to fire up easily and run smoothly with enough power to cruise at highway speeds of 55-60 mph. An original stock Carter carburetor with wet-oil air filtration remains and wears the proper decal, and a Pertronix ignition module has been installed in the distributor for ease of service and no more points tuning.

Undercarriage shots show the unit body and X-Frame construction with original suspension. The visible grease show that lubrication points have been serviced properly. The seller says all hydraulic brakes are in good condition and have been properly adjusted and recently bled.

The body-color steel artillery-style wheels and period-style white wall bias-ply tires with chrome hubcaps enhance the smooth lines. There does seem to be a couple small cracks noticeable in the close up of one hupcap (see gallery).

This Business Coupe can be appreciated as a nice Sunday driver or local show car. The Plymouth comes with a Clear Washington State title in the owner’s name, is said to have no current issues, and is ready to drive and enjoy.
