This International Harvester Pickup got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1940 International Harvester D-2 is said to have spent approximately 32 years with its previous owner until it was purchased by the selling dealer in 2023. It underwent a refurbishment that was completed in 1997 and reportedly earned an AACA First Junior Award later that year. The truck is finished in yellow with black fenders over black upholstery, and power comes from a replacement, overbored 213ci L-head inline-six paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Features include a chrome front bumper, driving lamps, turn signals, 16″ steel wheels, a side-mount spare, a steel cargo bed, a heater, and a locking glovebox. Service performed in 2023 is said to have included rebuilds of the steering box and water pump. This D-2 pickup is now offered by the selling dealer at no reserve with service records and a clean Oregon title.
The D Series ½-ton pickup was introduced in 1937 as a replacement for International’s Willys-based C Series pickup. Approximately 80k examples were produced through 1940 when the model was replaced by the K Series pickup. This example received bodywork and a replacement steel cargo bed floor and tailgate during the refurbishment before it was painted yellow with black fenders. Features include a chrome front bumper, driving lamps, a tilt-forward windshield, a driver-side running board, and dual tail lamps.
The body-color steel wheels feature black pinstriping and chrome International-branded hubcaps, and they are mounted with 6.50–16 Centennial Tradition and BFGoodrich Silvertown bias-ply tires. A matching spare wheel with a Centennial Tradition tire is mounted on the right side of the cargo bed. The steering box is said to have been rebuilt in 2023. Stopping power is provided by hydraulic drums at all four corners.
The cabin features a bench seat trimmed in black upholstery along with a color-matched headliner and rubber floor mat. Equipment includes a heater, a locking glovebox, and a driver’s sun visor.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames an 80-mph speedometer and gauges for water temperature, amperage, oil pressure, and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 155 miles, approximately 30 of which were added by the selling dealer. Total mileage is unknown.
The replacement 213ci L-head inline-six was bored .0025″ over as part of a rebuild in September 2011, and it features a Zenith carburetor with an oil bath-style air cleaner. The water pump was rebuilt in 2023.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a replacement three-speed manual transmission.
