This 1947 Buick Super Sedanet was reportedly purchased new by the current owner’s mother, and it has remained with the family since. Finished in Lehigh Grey and Dusty Grey over a gray interior, the car is equipped with a 248ci “Fireball” inline-eight paired with a three-speed manual transmission. Features include a push-button AM radio, a heater and defroster, and 16″ steel wheels. The car is said to have been updated in 1990, with work reportedly including a repaint, replacement of the headliner, and detailing of the powertrain. The car was awarded the Gold Senior award from the Antique Automobile Club of America (AACA) in 2005, and additional AACA recognition and awards are detailed in the gallery below. This Buick Super is now offered by the seller on behalf of its current owner in Canada with reference literature and an Ontario registration document.
The two-door Sedanet features fastback body styling as well as exterior details such as a ‘gun sight’ hood ornament, a split windshield, rear wheel skirts, and polished brightwork. This example was repainted in 1990 according to the seller, who notes repair work was performed to the front valance and wheel wells at that time. Wear is noted on portions of the windshield wiper trim, and the finish is shown further in the gallery below.
Body-color 16″ steel wheels are equipped with Buick-branded hubcaps and wrapped in wide-whitewall radial tires featuring “pie crust” sidewalls. A full-size spare is stored in the trunk.
The bench seats are wrapped in gray striped upholstery and accompanied by color coordinated treatments for the carpeting and replacement headliner. Equipment includes a Buick-branded push-button radio along with a clock, manually operated windows, and controls for heating and defrost.
A three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer that sits between combination gauges to monitor battery status, coolant temperature, fuel level, and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer indicates approximately 42k miles.
The 248ci “Fireball” inline-eight is fed by single Carter downdraft carburetor with an oil-bath air-cleaner assembly, and the seller states the engine was cleaned and detailed as part of the recommissioning. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed manual transmission.
Additional photos showing the suspension, chassis, and driveline are presented in the gallery below.
Reference manuals will accompany the car along with jacking equipment.
