This Cadillac Series 62 got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1949 Cadillac Series 62 is one of 8,000 convertible examples produced for the model year and is said to have spent time in California and Nebraska before returning to California where it underwent a four-year refurbishment completed in 1999. The car was repainted at that time and was later acquired by the seller in 2002. Power is supplied by a 331ci V8 mated to a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Other equipment includes a power-operated black soft top, black leather upholstery, a dual-exit exhaust system, wheel covers, whitewall tires, woodgrain interior trim, power windows, and a heater. Work completed since 2016 included rebuilding the carburetor and generator; refreshing the brakes, hydraulic top, and hydraulic window mechanisms; and replacing the rear suspension bushings, voltage regulator, and starter. This Series 62 convertible is now offered with a copy of the build sheet, an owner’s manual, period literature, a magazine article featuring the car, records from current ownership, a car cover, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car left the factory finished in Chartreuse (21)—a 1949-only limited-run color—and was refinished in the late 1990s during the aforementioned refurbishment. Features include a power-operated black soft top, a black parade boot, a split windshield, side mirrors, bumper overriders, a Cadillac Flying Goddess hood ornament, dual exhaust exits, and chrome trim on the grille, hood, fenders, and light surrounds. A replacement convertible top was installed around 2001, and various hydraulic lines for the power-operated top mechanism and the power windows were replaced in 2016. The door and trunk keys are missing, and the windshield-washer sprayer does not function. A permanent antenna is installed in place of the factory retractable unit, but no radio is connected. The seller notes that a hole has been drilled into the rear bumper. Touch-up paint was applied to the driver-side fender skirt in preparation for the sale. Images showing paint imperfections are provided in the gallery below.

Black-painted 15″ steel wheels wear bright covers and Coker Classic whitewall tires, and a spare wheel with an older tire is mounted in the trunk. The car is equipped with drum brakes at all four corners that were rebuilt under current ownership in 2016 using a replacement master cylinder and wheel cylinders. The rear suspension bushings were replaced in 2016.

The cabin features two rows of bench seats that are upholstered in black leather. Woodgrain trim stretches from the dashboard to the door panels, and equipment includes power windows, a heater, a passenger vanity mirror, Cadillac-logo floor mats, seat belts for four occupants, black-painted doorsill protectors, and a clock. The radio internals have been removed and replaced with an aftermarket speaker. The seller notes that the main wiring harness was replaced in 2008, and a battery cutoff switch is mounted on the floorboard. The radio, trunk light, clock, and cigarette lighter do not function, the power seat control switch works intermittently, and both the right-front window and the left-rear window occasionally operate slowly.

The three-spoke steering wheel features a full horn ring and fronts a 110-mph speedometer flanked by auxiliary readouts for fuel level, coolant temperature, battery status, and oil pressure. The seller notes the battery status gauge reads inaccurately, and both dash-indicator lights illuminate when either turn signal is activated. The five-digit odometer shows 14k miles, approximately 8k of which have been added under current ownership. True mileage is unknown.

The 331ci V8 was introduced for the 1949 model year and is equipped with a single carburetor, an oil-bath air cleaner, later-model blue Cadillac-script valve covers, and a 6-volt Optima battery. Work completed since 2016 involved rebuilding the carburetor and the generator along with replacing the starter, voltage regulator, and spark plugs. The hood release cable was repaired in preparation for the sale.
