1954 Chrysler Custom Imperial Newport

This 1954 Chrysler Custom Imperial Newport is a two-door hardtop coupe powered by a 331ci FirePower Hemi V8 equipped with a four-barrel carburetor and linked to a two-speed PowerFlite automatic transmission, and it was repainted yellow by the previous owner. Equipment includes a Continental kit, power steering, power brakes, 15″ chrome wire-spoke wheels, whitewall tires, beige and brown upholstery, a clock, power windows, and a push-button AM radio. The car was acquired by the current owner in 2006, and it was previously offered on BaT in June 2023. This Imperial Newport is now offered again in Canada by the seller on behalf of the owner with an Alberta registration certificate.

Chrysler built 1,249 copies of the two-door Newport hardtop for 1954, the final year until 1990 that Imperial was considered part of the Chrysler brand and not a separate marque altogether. The body is finished in yellow and is said to have been repainted by the previous owner. Features include a hood ornament, bright metal side trim, a Continental kit, dual mirrors, chrome bumpers, and polished exhaust finishers. There are paint chips on the hood and front fenders, swirls in the chrome on the bumpers, and a crack in the paint near the emblem on the decklid.

Chrome 15″ wire-spoke wheels wear spinner center caps and are mounted with Goodyear bias-ply whitewall tires. A full-size spare is stowed in the rear Continental kit. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted drums at all four corners.

The cabin features front and rear bench seats trimmed in beige and brown vinyl upholstery. Features include a heater/defroster, an analog clock, engine-turned aluminum trim, power windows, a power-operated driver seat, and a push-button AM radio.

The three-spoke steering wheel has a chrome horn ring and frames a 120-mph speedometer and a combination gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 83k miles, approximately 1,200 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 331ci FirePower Hemi V8 was factory rated at 235 horsepower and 330 lb-ft of torque and features a four-barrel carburetor and silver-finished FirePower-script valve covers. An oil change was performed most recently in March 2023. The rear of the engine leaks oil according to the seller.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a two-speed PowerFlite automatic transmission. Corrosion is visible on underbody components.

The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a province that does not issue titles for vehicles. It is being sold on its Alberta registration, which has no expiry date, since the car is listed as an “Antique Vehicle” with the registration period as “Continuous”.
