This Dodge Military Vehicles got away, but there are more like it here.

This pair of 1954 Dodge M37 ¾-ton trucks reportedly began life in military service before finding their way into civilian duty with the Connecticut Department of Public Works. The seller acquired them through a government surplus auction in October 2019. Both trucks wear forestry division livery and were previously modified for firefighting work. Truck #1 is finished in red with a white hardtop roof over an Army-green interior, and power is provided by a 230ci inline six mated to a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Truck #2 is finished in red with an olive drab canvas cab top over a red vinyl interior, and is in non-running condition. These M37 trucks are not current titled or registered for road use, and are now offered in California at no reserve with a set of Army technical manuals and a bill of sale for each vehicle.

Truck #1 is finished in red with a white hood and a hardtop cab that features a split windshield and a porthole rear window. The front bumper and perforated running boards are painted black, and a spray-on liner has been applied to the 6½-foot bed. An assortment of blemishes are present, including scratches, chips, and rust on the right front fender near the door hinge and around both headlight mounts, as well as on the cab and undercarriage surfaces.

Equipment includes a brush guard, a built-in storage locker, towing mirrors, a roof-mounted siren and rotating halogen safety lights, and a bed-mounted fire extinguisher, spare tire, and fire-hose reel. The tailgate has been removed to accommodate a water feed pipe that extends beyond the bed. The seller notes that the hose reel, siren, and emergency lights are inoperative.

Factory 16″ steel wheels are painted black and wear a mixed set of all-terrain tires. A brake service in January 2020 reportedly included replacement of the master cylinder, both front wheel cylinders, and the front and rear shoes.

The cab interior is finished in olive drab and features a three-spoke steering wheel, a glovebox, and vinyl seats with storage underneath. Instrumentation includes a 60-mph speedometer along with gauges for fuel level, engine temperature, oil pressure, and battery/generator. A little over 39k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, approximately 300 of which were added by the seller. True mileage is unknown.

The 230ci T-245 L-head inline-six was factory-rated at 78 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. Service in January 2020 included an oil change, and the exhaust manifold is reported to leak. Videos showing a start-up from in the cab and under the hood have been provided by the seller.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and an NP200 two-lever dual-range transfer case. Driveline vibration is noted by the seller. Additional photos of the underbody are provided in the gallery below.

Truck #2 does not run and is equipped with a canvas cab top, chrome side mirrors, a built-in storage locker, a brush guard, a fender-mounted chrome siren, and a front step bumper with a PTO winch.
