1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint

This 1956 Alfa Romeo Giulietta Sprint is a first-series, “small headlight” example that was built on January 31, 1956 and distributed in the US through Hoffman Motor Car Co. in New York. It is finished in Capri light blue over a two-tone blue and grey interior, and a 1,290cc DOHC inline-four powers the rear wheels through a column-shifted four-speed transmission with a tunnel case. The car was acquired by the seller in 2013 and subsequently restored over a four-year period, from 2015 to 2019, by Alfa Italia of Burbank, California. Work included an exterior repaint, interior refresh, engine rebuild, brake system overhaul, and more as described below. The seller has communicated with Marco Fazio of Alfa Centro Documentazione on the history of this Tipo 750B, which is now being offered with restoration records and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

Bertone-styled bodywork is finished in the factory shade of Capri light blue and features first-series 5.75″ Carello headlights, eyebrow-style front grilles, small Lucas tail lamps, and airplane-shaped trunk trim. The exterior was refinished by Alfa Italia in 2016, and the paintwork is shown up close in gallery photographs below. Other work included refurbishing the trim and replacing rubber seals.

Factory 15″ Fergat steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with Vredestien Sprint Classic tires. Braking is handled by four-wheel finned aluminum drums, which were serviced during the refurbishment with new hoses, linings, and cylinders. Koni shocks are fitted all around.

The two-tone blue and grey interior has been reupholstered and is complemented by body-colored accents on the dashboard and side garnish rails, along with a dark grey suede headliner. Features include an IPRA heater, a dash-mounted rearview mirror, and pop-out rear quarter windows.

A two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring with integrated high-beam center button. Veglia instrumentation includes a 120-mph speedometer and 7k-rpm tachometer. Just under 78k miles are shown on the five-digit odometer, of which approximately 300 are said to have been added by the seller.

The 1.3L twin-cam four was rebuilt in 2016 and features an aluminum engine block with cast-iron inserted sleeves, as well as an eight-valve aluminum cylinder head. Air and fuel are delivered via a rebuilt Solex carburetor, and power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed tunnel-case transmission. A new wiring harness was installed during the engine work, and the distributor points have been converted with electric components.
