This 1957 Ford Thunderbird was purchased by the owner’s mother in 1959 at Patterson Ford of Santa Monica, California, and was acquired by the owner in 1992. Subsequent work reportedly completed in the late-1990s included repainting the body in red in addition to other refurbishment work. The car is powered by a 312ci V8 mated with a three-speed automatic transmission and is equipped with red and white vinyl upholstery, a white fiberglass hardtop, a hood scoop, a trunk-mounted antenna, rear fender skirts, and chrome bumpers in addition to power-assisted steering and brakes, 14″ steel wheels with bright covers, and an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette radio. This Thunderbird is now offered by the seller on behalf of their spouse with the manufacturer’s literature, an initial purchase document, and a clean California title.
The car is finished in red and is said to have been repainted in the late-1990s. Features include a hood scoop, an egg-crate grille, a trunk-mounted antenna, hooded headlights, faux fender louvers, tail fins, rear fender skirts, chrome bumpers, and a white removable hardtop with porthole windows. The car is not equipped with a soft top. Paint chips are shown in the gallery below.
Red-finished 14″ steel wheels wear Ford-branded covers and are mounted with P78-14 Commander whitewall bias-ply tires. The car is equipped with power steering, and braking is handled by power-assisted drums.
The cabin features a front bench seat trimmed in white and red vinyl upholstery. Equipment includes engine-turned trim, a heater and defroster, lap belts, Thunderbird-branded rubber floor mats, and an aftermarket AM/FM/cassette radio.
The three-spoke steering wheel has a chrome horn ring and frames a 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and an analog clock as well as gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 48k miles, approximately 500 of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 312ci Thunderbird Special V8 features a four-barrel carburetor, finned Thunderbird-branded valve covers, and a chrome air cleaner assembly and radiator shroud.
Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. An aftermarket dual exhaust system has been installed and terminates before the rear bumper.
A replacement trim tag has been installed and the VIN number D7FH353974 corresponds with the VIN listed on the California title.
