V8-Powered 1957 Nash Rambler Custom Cross Country Wagon

This 1957 Nash Rambler Custom Cross Country station wagon was refurbished under previous ownership before it was purchased in California by the seller in 2017 for use as a tow vehicle. The car is finished in green with woodgrain panels and a white roof over two-tone brown and white vinyl upholstery, and power comes from a 250ci V8 paired with a Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Equipment includes an aluminum radiator, power-assisted drum brakes, rear air shocks, a custom receiver hitch, a roll-down tailgate window, a chrome roof rack, and an AM radio. This final-year Nash is now offered with service manuals and a clean California title in the name of the seller’s spouse.

The 1957 model year was the final season for American Motors’ Nash and Hudson nameplates, just as Rambler was being spun off into a separate marque. Delivered from the factory in tri-color Oregon Green, Bermuda Green, and Frost White (88-67-72), this car was refinished in its current green with a white roof and woodgrain body accents under previous ownership. Equipment includes a chrome grille, bumpers, and trim as well as dual sideview mirrors, a roof rack, a custom receiver hitch, and a fold-down tailgate with a roll-down window. Paint chips are noted by the seller.

Black-painted 15″ steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps, and they are mounted with Suretrac Power Touring whitewall radial tires. A spare wheel with a Firestone tire is stowed beneath the rear cargo floor. The Rambler rode on a 108″ wheelbase and featured a coil-sprung independent front suspension. Rear air shocks were installed under the seller’s ownership. Braking is provided by power-assisted drums at all four corners.

The cabin features front and rear bench seats trimmed in white and brown vinyl upholstery with color-matched door panels. Brown carpets line the floors, and additional equipment includes a white dashpad, a Weather Eye heater, an AM radio, a locking glovebox, and front and rear lap belts.

The ivory-colored two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring, and it frames a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows 80k miles, approximately 3k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 250ci V8 is said to have been rebuilt under previous ownership before it was installed along with an aluminum radiator. The car’s chassis number and model code indicate that it was originally equipped with a 196ci inline-six.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a rebuilt Hydra-Matic automatic transmission, which was offered by Rambler under license from General Motors. Undercoating was applied under previous ownership.
