This Oldsmobile 98 got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1957 Oldsmobile Starfire 98 convertible is a non-running project that spent time in storage under prior ownership in Southern California and was acquired by the seller in 2019. The car is finished in white over gold-colored tattered upholstery and is equipped with a 371ci Rocket V8 mated to a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission. Features include red-painted 15″ steel wheels, whitewall tires, drum brakes, power steering, white-painted bumpers, hooded headlights, a wrap-around windshield, power windows, and an analog clock. This Oldsmobile 98 project is now offered at no reserve with spare parts and a California title in the seller’s name.
Finished from the factory in Gold Mist (91) with Accent Vermillion (22) body-side coloring, the car was repainted in white under prior ownership. The bright side trim stretching toward the rear of the car has red inlays, and bright trim also composes the window surrounds, hood decorations, and badges. The bumpers are painted white. A soft top is not installed on the power-top mechanism. Images showing evidence of corrosion in the rocker-panel areas and also near the power-top actuator struts are provided in the gallery below.
Red-painted 15″ steel wheels wear whitewall tires. Drum brakes are fitted at each corner, and a spare wheel is stored in the trunk along with various spare parts. The condition of the power-assisted braking and power steering systems are unknown.
The gold-colored upholstery on the front and rear bench seats is tattered, damaged, and discolored. The seat cushions have deteriorated, and neither door panels, carpets, nor a radio are installed. The seller notes that sections of the floor were replaced under prior ownership. Factory equipment included power windows, a clock, a heater, Autronic-Eye automatic headlight dimming, and a power-adjustable front bench seat.
The two-spoke steering wheel fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a fuel-level gauge, and warning indicators for oil pressure and coolant temperature. The horn ring and center emblem are not installed. The five-digit odometer shows 26k miles, none of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 371ci Rocket V8 features a red-painted block, cylinder heads, and intake manifold. A carburetor is not installed, the ignition system is incomplete, and the operating condition of the engine is not known.
The car has a four-speed Hydra-Matic automatic transmission as well as a dual exhaust system. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery.
