1961 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special

Sold for $30,500 on 2/3/24

This 1961 Cadillac Fleetwood Sixty Special was delivered new to A.W. Golden, Inc. in Reading, Pennsylvania on September 1, 1961, and it spent about two decades in storage as part of a private collection before it was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023. Work in preparation for the sale involved recharging the air conditioning refrigerant, servicing the brakes and carburetor, flushing the coolant, and changing the heater core, battery, and engine oil. The car is finished in blue over a two-tone blue interior and is powered by a 390ci V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes rear fender skirts, wheel covers, whitewall tires, a power-adjustable front seat, air conditioning, power windows, and a push-button AM radio. This Sixty is now offered in New York with manufacturer’s literature and a clean Maryland title.

The Sixty Special was redesigned for 1961 under the direction of Bill Mitchell. This example was delivered new in Dresden Blue (24), and the selling dealer notes evidence that the car has been repainted. Equipment includes a driver-side mirror, rear fender skirts, a fender-mounted antenna, decorative louvers, and tail fins with integrated taillights.

Steel wheels wear turbine-style covers with Cadillac crests and are mounted with whitewall tires. The steering and four-wheel drum brakes are power assisted. The brakes were adjusted in preparation for the sale.

The interior houses front and rear bench seats trimmed in blue cloth with leather trim. Amenities include air conditioning, a six-way power-adjustable front bench, front and rear folding armrests, an Autronic Eye system, an AM radio, and power windows. The selling dealer reports that the power vent window on the right side occasionally sticks. The heater core was replaced and the air condition system was recharged with R-134a refrigerant in preparation for the sale.

The two-spoke steering wheel frames a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and readouts for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 45k miles, a handful of which were added by the selling dealer.

The 390ci V8 is painted blue and topped with a black-finished air cleaner assembly. Work in preparation for the sale involved servicing the carburetor and changing the coolant, engine oil, and battery, per the selling dealer.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
