1963 Dodge 330 2-Door Sedan Max Wedge 4-Speed

This 1963 Dodge 330 two-door sedan is one of 162 Max Wedge–powered Dodge or Plymouth vehicles documented to have been produced for the model year, and it was featured on BaT in October 2016 before being acquired by the seller from the family of its original owner in 2017 as a project. Subsequent refurbishment work completed in 2022 involved refinishing the car in black over blue upholstery, rebuilding the replacement 426ci Max Wedge V8, refreshing the brakes and suspension components, and installing an A833 four-speed manual transmission. Additional equipment includes a cross-ram intake manifold, dual four-barrel carburetors, a 3.91:1 limited-slip differential, a driveshaft loop, American Racing 15″ wheels, four-wheel drum brakes, a hood scoop, a dash-mounted tachometer, a Hurst shifter, bench seating, and a push-button AM radio. This Dodge 330 is now offered with a Car Broadcast Sheet, operating instructions, historical photos, refurbishment images, spare parts, and a clean Wisconsin title in the seller’s name.

The body left the factory finished in Onyx (BB1) and was stripped to bare metal and then refinished using single-stage urethane paint as part of a refurbishment completed in 2022. Additional work included replating the chrome bumpers, repairing the trim, and replacing the light bulbs. Exterior features include a hood scoop, offset quad headlights, 330 badging, a driver-side mirror, and a dual exhaust system with turned-down outlets.

American Racing 15″ five-spoke wheels are wrapped in General Altimax tires. Braking is handled by unassisted four-wheel drums, and the seller notes that the brakes and the suspension components were rebuilt using replacement bushings, wheel bearings, brake shoes, torsion bars, and re-arched rear leaf springs as part of the refurbishment. The battery is mounted in the trunk along with a steel-rimmed spare wheel wearing an older tire.

The front and rear bench seats were retrimmed in blue vinyl with patterned cloth and lighter vinyl accents using material sourced from SMS Auto Fabrics of Canby, Oregon. Replacement carpeting and door panels were installed at that time, and the dashboard was refinished. Interior equipment includes a floor-mounted Hurst shifter, vent windows, bright doorsills, three-point front seatbelts, a heater, and a push-button AM radio wired to a replacement speaker.

The two-spoke steering wheel features a half horn ring and fronts a 120-mph speedometer, a dash-mounted tachometer, and gauges for fuel level, coolant temperature, and alternator status. The instruments were rebuilt and refinished under current ownership. Two aftermarket auxiliary gauges located beneath the dashboard display coolant temperature and oil pressure. The five-digit odometer shows 10k miles, approximately 300 of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The replacement Max Wedge V8 reportedly was overbored from its initial 413ci to displace 426ci with a 13.5:1 compression ratio and installed under prior ownership in the 1960s. Under current ownership, the cylinders were honed and the valves were replaced by B&B Racing Engines of Appleton, Wisconsin before the engine was reassembled using rebuilt components including the dual four-barrel carburetors, alternator, starter, and distributor. Additional refurbishment work included repainting the block, cross-ram intake manifold, cylinder heads, and valve covers in addition to installing an aluminum radiator and a mechanical fuel pump and also replacing the oil pump, fuel tank, fuel lines, and voltage regulator. Dual Bendix electric fuel pumps were rebuilt and reinstalled on the car but are not currently plumbed into the fuel system. The original 426ci Max Wedge engine is said to have been replaced in the mid-1960s.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a replacement A833 four-speed manual transmission that was rebuilt using replacement bearings and synchronizers before being installed under current ownership along with a replacement clutch, steel bellhousing, and driveshaft. Additional work included replacing the rear-end pinion seal and installing a 3.91:1 limited-slip differential.
