This 1963 Porsche 356B 1600 Super Coupe is a matching-numbers example being offered by the third owner from new, who has owned the car for the past 16 years. This is an early T-6 model finished in attractive Heron Grey over Blue leatherette interior, with one exterior repaint in the 1990s but original paint on the door jambs and dashboard. It was originally ordered by an American serviceman while stationed in Germany and was delivered to him stateside in California. The car was eventually passed on to his mechanic who gave the car a light restoration before selling it to the current owner in 2000. The seller recently refreshed the car mechanically with new engine seals and rebuilt carburetors and had it detailed cosmetically, with new rubber seals installed as necessary. It is currently in good running and driving condition with no known mechanical issues.
The exterior was repainted once in 1994 in the original Heron Grey, using an original-style oil based lacquer paint. The paint remains in good condition and the car has won several local Porsche shows, though the seller describes it as a nice driver with a few blemishes rather than a concours example. It was recently given a full detail and any dried out rubber seals were replaced.
The rear bumper was bent at one point in a parking lot incident, though fortunately the bodywork was not damaged. A good replacement bumper was installed and the original is included in the sale, though it still needs to be repaired. At some point the original wheels were replaced with set of Brazilian made Mengels reproductions, which were recently straightened and powdercoated and a new set of tires was installed. The spare wheel is a correct date stamped original.
The 1990s refresh included new interior upholstery in the original blue leatherette, which remains in good condition. All lights and accessories work well and the car retains original paint on the front of the dashboard. Front lap seatbelts were added as an option when new and are still installed.
The original numbers matching 75 HP Super engine is still installed along with the original gearbox. The seller recently had a number of maintenance items addressed including the following:
- New engine seals
- Original carburetors rebuilt
- New generator belt
- Ignition system tune-up
- Front and rear wheel brake cylinders rebuilt
The seller previously had the transmission rebuilt and has all receipts for services performed during his ownership. The car is currently in good running and driving condition with no known service needs.
Engine #703160 is original to the car, confirmed by the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity.
The undercarriage is in good shape with many lift shots viewable. The car has remained in California since new.
The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity is included in the sale. This is a clean 356 with good ownership history and many original details that can be used for vintage rallies and local shows.
