This Ford Fairlane got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1964 Ford Fairlane 500 is a two-door hardtop that is powered by a 260ci V8 paired with a two-speed Ford-O-Matic transmission. It is finished in white over black vinyl upholstery, and equipment includes body-color 14″ steel wheels, a dual exhaust system with an H-pipe, and a push-button AM radio. The seller acquired the car in 2020, and work in 2022 involved performing rust repairs to the trunk and floors, rebuilding the transmission, installing KYB shocks, servicing the brakes, and replacing the timing chain, water pump, valve seals, mufflers, carpeting, and various power steering components. This Fairlane 500 is now offered at no reserve with partial service records and transferable New York registration in the seller’s name.
The car left the factory in Phoenician Yellow (R) and was reportedly repainted in the 1980s. The seller states that the rocker panels were replaced under current ownership, and the license plate light socket was repaired and fitted with replacement bulbs in 2022. Paint chips and corrosion are visible on various spots throughout the body.
Steel 14″ wheels are finished in white and mounted with 205/70 Ironman iMove PT tires showing 2021 date codes. Work in 2022 consisted of repacking the front wheel bearings, adjusting the drum brakes at each corner, flushing the brake fluid, installing four KYB shocks, and replacing the upper control arm bushings, left front wheel cylinder, rear leaf springs, and power steering pump shaft seal, ram boot, belt, and high-pressure hose.
The cabin features front and rear bench seats upholstered in black vinyl, and the color-coordinated carpeting was replaced under current ownership due to rodent damage. A Ford push-button AM radio is mounted in the dashboard. Holes in the right front floor pan and trunk floor were repaired in 2022, and additional work included repairs to the front left window regulator along with the replacement of the parcel shelf, dome light bulb, and switches for the turn signals and headlights. Tears and scratches are visible on the seats, dashboard, and door panels.
The three-spoke steering wheel frames a central 120-mph speedometer and supplementary gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. The voltage regulator was replaced in 2022. The five-digit odometer shows 20k miles, approximately 3k of which have been added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.
The 260ci V8 was removed and repainted in a mix of black and red under current ownership. Service in 2022 involved rebuilding the two-barrel carburetor, cleaning the radiator, and installing a 180-degree thermostat and a 1965 Mustang-style PCV valve in addition to replacing the timing chain, water pump, valve seals, rear main seal, and fuel sending unit.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a two-speed Ford-O-Matic automatic transmission that was rebuilt in 2022. The car is fitted with an H-pipe dual exhaust system with SoundMaster mufflers. The driveshaft u-joint was replaced in 2022, and the rear axle fluid was also changed at that time.
The vehicle warranty number is consistent with a 1964 Fairlane 500 two-door hardtop that was built in Dearborn, Michigan, and originally powered by a 260ci V8 with a two-barrel carburetor. Decoding the data plate reveals the following information:
