This Mercury Comet got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1964 Mercury Comet Caliente convertible was acquired by the seller’s father approximately 40 years ago and was used as a parade car when he was a Washington state senator. It was later handed down to the seller and refurbished. The car is finished in crimson over a gray and crimson custom interior and is powered by a replacement V8 engine mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional features include an aftermarket stereo system. This Caliente convertible is now offered at no reserve with boot cover and a clean California title.

Instrumentation set behind the Nardi steering wheel includes a horizontal 120-mph speedometer and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, amperage, and water temperature. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 37k miles, 10k of which were added during current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The factory 260ci V8 was replaced with a V8 of unknown displacement that features an Edelbrock Performer intake manifold and an Edelbrock air cleaner. Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed C4 automatic transmission. An oil change was performed approximately 1,000 miles ago. The battery requires a recharge after the car sits, and the power steering and brakes do not work when the car is idling.

The video above shows the engine at idle and a start-up video is provided below.
