This Volkswagen Bus got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1966 Volkswagen Type 2 was sold new at Wolff Motors in San Diego, California, and is claimed to have remained in that state and Texas with three prior owners, including a period of storage from 1983 to 2003. Finished in Pearl White over gray upholstery, it is powered by a rebuilt 1.5-liter flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes 14″ steel wheels, passenger-side cargo doors, pop-out side windows, painted bumpers, custom woodgrain interior paneling, and a rear bench that converts to a bed. The seller acquired the van in July 2020 and reports subsequently replacing the wheel bearings and brake hydraulics along with changing the oils in the engine and reduction gearboxes. This Type 2 is now offered with owner’s manuals, service records, accessories, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

The bus left the factory finished in Pearl White (L87) and reportedly underwent bodywork circa 2005 prior to being repainted below the roof edges and receiving replacement body seals. Exterior details include sliding front windows, pop-out side windows, passenger-side split doors, and white-finished bumpers with overriders. The seller states that the windshield wipers work slowly and notes chips and scuffs in the finish, and photos showing chips in the windshield are provided in the gallery below. An uninstalled canopy is included in the sale.

White-finished 14″ steel wheels with chrome hubcaps are wrapped in 185-series Continental Vanco 2 tires said to have been mounted in 2013. A spare is mounted behind the front seats and the original jack is also included. Service under current ownership reportedly consisted of replacing the brake master cylinder, wheel cylinders, and lines along with the wheel bearings.

The two-spoke steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of an 80-mph speedometer with recommended-shift markers along with a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer is believed to have rolled over and shows 17k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 1.5-liter flat-four is said to have been removed in 2003 and reinstalled in 2009 following a rebuild at Motormania in Austin, Texas, that included replacement Mahle pistons and cylinders. A 12-volt electrical-system conversion was reportedly carried out in 2003, and the oil has been changed under current ownership. An oil leak is noted by the seller.
