200Tdi-Powered 1967 Land Rover 88 Series IIA

This 1967 Land Rover Series IIA was reportedly refurbished in Florida by the previous owners as a father and son project over 18 months, and the seller acquired it in 2019. Power is provided by a later 200Tdi turbodiesel inline-four backed by a 4-speed manual transmission and a two-speed transfer case. The truck has been repainted in pale green and features 16″ wheels with Goodyear tires, a canvas top, and a bumper-mounted winch. This Land Rover is offered with a factory 2.25L engine and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The previous owners took the truck down to bare aluminum and repainted the truck from the original red to pale green over etching and epoxy primer. The seller reports that all of the lights were replaced, and close-ups of the lighting and trim are provided in the gallery below. A Koenig winch is mounted to the front bumper, though it has not been hooked up to the new engine, as an adapter was not made for the 200Tdi engine.

The canvas top features rolling side panels with clear plastic windows and is shown with the sides both raised and lowered. A factory Safari top is included, but is unrestored. The 16″ steel wheels feature a cream-colored finish, and are fitted with Goodyear Wrangler Duratrac tires measuring 235/85 and showing 2016 date codes.

The forward cabin is color-keyed to the exterior and features black rubberized floor mats and a pair of black vinyl-upholstered seats for the driver and front passenger. Seat belts are installed for front and rear seat passengers. The seller reports that the bulkhead and dash assembly were refurbished by a specialist in New York, and photos of the bulkhead prior to re-installation are provided in the gallery below.

The previous owner reportedly replaced all of the wiring. The Lucas windshield wipers were not re-installed after the truck was finished. Factory instrumentation is centrally-mounted in the dash, and ventilation controls are mounted directly below. 39k miles are shown on the 5-digit odometer, approximately 300 of which were added by the seller.

The factory 2.25L gas engine has been replaced with a 200Tdi turbodiesel inline-four from a later Land Rover. The engine is fitted with an intake and turbocharger from a later 300Tdi. The truck is also equipped with power steering from a P38 Range Rover and power-assisted brakes. The factory engine is included and pictured in the gallery below.

Power is sent to all four wheels via a 4-speed manual transmission from a Series III, a 2-speed transfer case, and solid axles with 4.11:1 gears. The axles were assembled with open carriers by Great Basin Rovers. The factory leaf springs have been replaced with a set of aftermarket parabolic springs from Rocky Mountain Parabolics. The seller notes seepage from the swivel ball seals.

The seller reports that a rusty section at the rear of the frame was cut out and replaced, and the frame was subsequently finished with a rust-inhibiting coating. Photos of the frame separated from the bodywork are included, and show the frame both before and after patching and refinishing in the current black.
