This 1967 Lincoln Continental coupe was purchased by California builder John d’Agostino in the late 1990s and subsequently modified with assistance from Oz Kustoms, Gene Winfield, Frank De Rosa Customs, and others. Named “Golden Sunset,” this kustom features a 2.5″ chop, shaved exterior trim, chassis modifications, a custom blended paint scheme, and a white tuck and roll interior with brown mohair accents. Power is from a 462ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission, and additional equipment includes airbag suspension, remote door poppers, a TV and VCR, and more. The current owner acquired the car in 2009, and it is now offered on consignment by the selling dealer in Arizona with articles and photos as well as a clean Washington State title.
Modifications to the two-door body were performed by Oz Kustoms and included a 2.5″ roof chop, shaving the badges and door handles, flaring the rocker panels, and lowering the rear wheel arches. The paint scheme was designed and applied by Gene Winfield and features House of Kolor Kandy Pearl Copper, Cinnamon, and Kandy Root Beer hues blended into White Pearl side stripes. A grille with a floating chrome bar was fabricated by Greg Westbury of Concord, California, who also reshaped the bumpers, added chrome bullets to the taillights, and installed Lucas-style headlamps. Chrome fender peak strips were added by Frank De Rosa Customs.
Oz Kustoms was tasked with chassis modifications including modification of the frame members to accommodate lowering of the suspension on airbags. Chrome wire 15″ wheels feature spinner hubcaps and are mounted with Coker Classic Broadway whitewall tires all around.
The cabin is trimmed in white biscuit-quilted and tuck and roll leatherette featuring copper piping and mohair accents. The transmission tunnel was raised to accommodate the raised driveshaft resulting from the other chassis modifications. Interior work was performed by Divine’s Custom Interiors in Martinez, California, with the same patterns carried into the trunk.
The dash features a quilted leather cap and a custom center stack featuring a period 5″ TV and VCR as well as a Pioneer CD player. Instrumentation includes a horizontal speedometer and a five-digit odometer said to show 65k miles, with actual mileage unknown. The power windows are said to be inoperable, while the door and trunk latches are actuated with remote poppers from Unkl Al’s.
The 462ci V8 was originally rated at 340 horsepower with 485 lb-ft of torque and drives the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. An aftermarket radiator and an exhaust system from Antioch Muffler Service in California were added during the modification work. The selling dealer states that the car will be delivered with a fresh oil change completed.
A signature from Gene Winfield dated 2002 can be seen in the passenger-side door jamb. Documentation includes period articles featuring the car as well as a collection of photographs and slides from contemporary photo shoots. An engine start, interior tour, walk-around, and driving footage can be viewed in videos below.
