401-Powered 1968 AMC Javelin SST 4-Speed

This 1968 AMC Javelin SST is powered by a 401ci V8 linked to a four-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9″ rear end. The car is finished in red with white stripes over black vinyl upholstery with tri-color inserts, and equipment includes Billet Specialties 15″ wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, power steering, a rear spoiler, a Grant steering wheel, an Alpine head unit, and a Hurst shifter as well as a Holley carburetor, an Indy Power Products intake manifold and cylinder heads, long-tube headers, FlowMaster mufflers, and a Griffin aluminum radiator with dual electric cooling fans. The car was refurbished and modified under prior ownership and was acquired by the selling dealer in July 2023. This modified Javelin is now offered in South Carolina with a clean Virginia title.

The car was repainted red with white stripes during the aforementioned refurbishment. Exterior details include body-color bumpers, bright window trim, a rear spoiler, a remote-adjustable driver-side mirror, a fender-mounted antenna, 390 badging, and dual exhaust outlets. A bubble in the paint on the driver’s door is noted.

Polished 15″ Billet Specialties alloy wheels are mounted with 205/70 Blackhawk Street-H HH11 tires up front and 26×12.00″ Mickey Thompson Sportsman tires at the rear. The car is equipped with power steering, braking is handled by unassisted discs at all four corners, and traction bars have been added.

The front bucket seats and rear bench were retrimmed in black vinyl with red, white, and blue inserts and red piping during the refurbishment. Appointments include color-coordinated door and side panels as well as a Hurst T-handle shifter, lap belts, a Weather Eye heater/defroster, a locking glove compartment, and an Alpine CD head unit. The Optima battery was relocated to the trunk.

The leather-wrapped Grant steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, an analog clock, and gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. Additional Summit-branded auxiliary readouts for oil pressure and coolant temperature are positioned below the dash. The five-digit odometer shows 58k miles, approximately 500 of which have been added by the selling dealer; true mileage is unknown.

The factory 290ci V8 was removed and a replacement 401ci V8 was installed under prior ownership. A Holley carburetor was installed by the selling dealer, and additional equipment includes an Indy Power Products intake manifold and cylinder heads, and long-tube exhaust headers. A Griffin aluminum radiator is augmented by dual electric cooling fans. An oil change was carried out by the selling dealer.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a Borg-Warner T10 four-speed manual transmission and a Ford 9″ rear axle. The dual exhaust system features FlowMaster mufflers.
