1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396

This 1968 Chevrolet Camaro SS 396 coupe was purchased new from Roller Chevrolet of Monterey, California, and remained with the first owner’s family until it was purchased by the seller in 2008. Subsequent refurbishment work in 2013 involved repainting the car, rebuilding the engine, and retrofitting power steering and air conditioning. The car is finished in white over red vinyl upholstery and powered by a replacement 396ci V8 paired with a TH400 three-speed automatic transmission. Equipment includes 14″ Rally wheels, power-assisted front disc brakes, a black tail panel and nose stripe, a black vinyl top, woodgrain interior trim, a center console, bucket seats, a push-button AM radio, and a tachometer with an inset clock. This Camaro is offered by the seller with an owner’s manual, it’s Protect-O-Plate, historical registration documents, a black California license plate, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.

Finished from the factory in Ermine White with a black vinyl top, the car was repainted as part of the refurbishment. Exterior details include a black tail panel and nose stripe, SS badging, faux hood vents, and chrome trim on the left-side mirror, bumpers, rocker panels, wheel arches, window surrounds, and door handles. Silver-finished 14″ Rally wheels wear chrome hubcaps and trim rings and are mounted with 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. A spare is stored in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted front disc and rear drum brakes, and power steering was added during the refurbishment.

The front bucket seats and rear bench are trimmed in red vinyl and joined by a color-coordinated dash pad and door panels. Woodgrain trim adorns the dashboard and center console, and air conditioning was retrofitted as part of the refurbishment. The seat cushions and carpets are said to have been replaced under current ownership. Additional appointments include a push-button AM radio, a heater, a lockable glovebox, color-coordinated rubber floor mats, and lap belts.

The five-digit odometer shows 4,600 miles. Total mileage is unknown.

The Protect-O-Plate indicates that the car was originally equipped with an L35 396ci V8. The seller states that the replacement 396ci V8 was installed under warranty in 1970, and the engine was reportedly rebuilt in 2013. Additional work completed under current ownership is said to have included replacing the wiring harnesses and radiator. An oil change was performed in 2022.
