This Ford Mustang 1967-1968 got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1968 Ford Mustang California Special was manufactured in San Jose, California and sold new at Pasadena Motors. The original owner made national headlines after his passing in 2012 when over $7 million in gold was found in his Nevada garage along with this car, which was subsequently acquired from his estate by the seller. Finished in Lime Gold over Ivy Gold, this coupe is powered by a 302ci V8 mated to a 3-speed automatic transmission and optioned with a locking differential, extra cooling package, center console, power brakes and steering, and tinted glass. A hood scoop was added under original ownership, and the factory brake ducts were reportedly made functional. This California Special is offered with a Marti report, news articles mentioning the car, documents from the original owner’s estate, purchase and recent service records, and a Georgia title in the seller’s name.

1968 Ford Mustang California Special

This California Special was built on May 14, 1968 and sold new to Walter Samaszko, who owned it for 44 years. Finished in Lime Gold (#2041-A), the car is equipped with Lucas fog lights, Dzus hood pins, rear spoiler, side scoops, 1965 Ford Thunderbird taillights, a pop-open gas cap, and side graphics as part of the California Special appearance package. The hood was cut for fitment of a hood scoop under original ownership, and the underside was repainted according to the seller. The ornamental brake ducts were also reportedly made functional. Factory 14″ Argent steel wheels wear a matching set of BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires.

The Ivy Gold vinyl interior features a center console and AM radio, and the car was optioned with power steering and brakes. Noted issues include seam separation on the driver’s seat, cracks in the center console, wear in the carpet, and staining on the headliner. There are 46k miles on the odometer, with total mileage unknown. The seller has added approximately 2k miles over five years of ownership.

The J-code 302ci V8 features a 4-barrel carburetor and is backed by a C4 Cruise-O-Matic transmission. The seller has added a new battery, radiator and a Flowmaster exhaust system in the past five years. The original radiator will be included in the sale.
