1968 Oldsmobile 442 Convertible 4-Speed

This 1968 Oldsmobile 442 convertible is finished in Sapphire Blue over white and powered by a numbers-matching 400ci V8 paired with a numbers-matching Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle. Features include a white convertible soft top, fender stripes, air conditioning, power steering, optional rally pack, headrest seats, power front disc brakes, 14″ Rally wheels, Firestone redline tires, dual-outlet exhaust, and an Oldsmobile transistor radio. The car is said to be one of approximately 1,500 manual convertible examples produced and was acquired by the owner in 2018. It was subsequently body-off refurbished with work including repairing rust, repainting the body, reupholstering the interior, and rebuilding the engine and transmission. This 442 convertible is offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with manufacturer’s literature, the original Protect-O-Plate, purchase documents, past registrations, and a clean California title.

The car was refinished in Sapphire Blue with white fender stripes during current ownership. Features include a white convertible soft top, 442 badging, a dual-outlet exhaust that exits below the rear bumper, quad headlamps, and chrome trim and bumpers. The body is said to have been stripped to bare metal during the refurbishment, and rust was repaired.

The painted 14″ Rally wheels wear polished trim rings and are mounted with F70-14 Firestone Super Sports redline tires. The car is equipped with power steering and braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.

The cabin is said to have been reupholstered and features front bucket seats and a rear bench trimmed in white vinyl joined by a matching dashboard, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a Hurst shifter, center console, headrests, air conditioning, manual windows, polished door sills, and an Oldsmobile transistor radio. The convertible top and interior was refurbished by Bill Dunn One Stop Shop of Huntington Beach, California.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, tachometer with inset clock, and a multifunction gauge with fuel level, coolant temperature, and oil pressure displays. The five-digit mechanical odometer indicates 69k miles, 1k of which were added by the owner. Total mileage is unknown.

The numbers-matching 400ci V8 breathes through a four-barrel carburetor and was factory rated at 350 horsepower and 440 lb-ft of torque. The engine was refurbished by Vellios Machine of Lawndale, California.

The engine stamp 113197 corresponds with the last six digits of the VIN tag.

Power is delivered to the rear wheels through a numbers-matching Muncie M20 four-speed manual transmission and a 12-bolt rear axle. The transmission was reportedly rebuilt.

Manufacturer’s literature, the original Protect-O-Plate, purchase documents, and past registrations are included in the sale.
