New to BaT? Learn how it works.

This 1969 Austin America was sold new at Southtown Motor Sports in Richfield, Minnesota and brought to Kansas in the late 1970s. The car was reportedly driven sparingly by the original owners until 1985, when it was parked in a garage due to failure of the hydrolastic suspension. The previous owner returned the car to roadworthiness as described below, and it was acquired by the seller about a year and a half ago. This Austin is finished in Pale Primrose over a black vinyl interior, and the 1275cc inline-four is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. The sale includes a list of work completed by the previous owner along with a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The exterior wears Pale Primrose paint, and the seller notes that the vehicle was in a minor accident while with the second owner and had some panels refinished at that time. Additional paintwork is noted on the lower edge of the driver-side rear quarter panel, and chips and scrapes are also present.

The hydrolastic suspension was repaired by the previous owner and is now said to function correctly. Some pitting is present on the chrome front bumper, and the steel wheels are fitted with a set of Kumho tires.

The interior is trimmed in black vinyl, and woven floor mats are present in both the front and rear of the cabin. Some discoloration can be seen in the carpet near the automatic shifter.

A two-spoke wood steering wheel is present, and the interior gauges and related components are reported to function as intended. The odometer currently shows approximately 28,500 miles, although true mileage is unknown.

Power comes from a 1275cc inline-four that is mated to a 4-speed automatic transmission. Work completed by the previous owner included refinishing the gas tank and rebuilding carburetor, as well as installing a new thermostat, spark plugs, cap, rotor, and engine mounts. A detailed write up from the previous owner can be seen in the gallery.

The wheel cylinders were rebuilt, and new brakes pads and hoses were also added along with new outer tie rods and a Seven Enterprises steering rack bushing. Additional spare parts are included in the sale as shown in photos.
