1969 Plymouth Road Runner Hemi Coupe

This 1969 Plymouth Road Runner coupe was sold new from Whipple Chrysler Plymouth of Ventura, California, and was registered in several states and Canada before it was purchased by the seller in 2006. The car is powered by a 426ci Hemi V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission and a 3.23:1 Sure-Grip differential. Finished in red over black vinyl upholstery, it is also equipped with twin four-barrel carburetors, a transmission cooler, an Air Grabber hood, black hood stripes, a front bench seat, a heater, and lap belts. This Road Runner is now offered by the seller on behalf of the current owner with a window sticker, literature, spare parts, mileage statements from previous owners, service records, and a clean California title in the owner’s name.

The car was delivered from the factory with a steel roof and bodywork finished in Performance Red (R4) and features chrome bumpers, an Air Grabber hood, black hood stripes, a driver’s door-mounted mirror, a dual-exit exhaust, and Hemi and Road Runner badging.

The body-color steel wheels wear chrome hubcaps and are mounted with F70-15 Firestone Wide Oval Super Sport redline bias-ply tires. A matching spare wheel is stowed in the trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes, and a replacement brake master cylinder was installed in June 2014.

The cabin features front and rear bench seats trimmed in black vinyl along with a color-coordinated headliner, door panels, and carpets. Equipment includes a heater, front and rear lap belts, and Road Runner-branded front floor mats. The seller reports the dash has three holes where a previously mounted tachometer was fitted.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer and gauges for amperage, fuel level, and coolant temperature. The car is fitted with a “Voice of Road Runner” horn. The five-digit odometer shows under 3k miles, approximately 800 of which were added under current ownership.

The 426ci Hemi V8 features twin four-barrel carburetors and was factory rated at 425 horsepower.

Power is sent to the rear wheels via a three-speed TorqueFlite automatic transmission, a Sure Grip differential, and a rear end with a 3.23:1 final drive. A transmission cooler was installed under previous ownership. There is a hole in the left muffler and corrosion on underside surfaces.

The window sticker shows delivery to Whipple Chrysler Plymouth and lists a total price of $3,993. A copy of the original sales invoice in the gallery shows the first owner paid a total cash price of $3,865 before trade-in allowance on a 1967 Pontiac GTO.
