426 Hemi–Powered 1970 Plymouth Barracuda 4-Speed

This 1970 Plymouth Barracuda hardtop coupe has been fitted with a replacement 426ci Hemi V8 built by Keith Black Racing Engines. Finished in red over black vinyl upholstery, the car features a four-speed manual transmission, a pistol-grip shifter, Keystone 15″ wheels, hood pins, a Shaker hood scoop, fog lights, a Chrysler Solid State radio, and woodgrain trim. The vehicle is said to have been relocated from North Carolina to Texas in the late 1990s and was with the previous owner for 24 years before being acquired by the seller in late 2022. This ’Cuda is now offered with a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.

The car was refinished in red under previous ownership and is accented by black “hockey stick” stripes with Hemi lettering. Equipment includes hood pins, a black Shaker hood scoop, fog lights, chrome bumpers, and bright trim around the windows and on the lower body. The seller states that the paint appears to have been a single-stage application. The front grille panel and the driver-side sail panel exhibit bubbling paint, as pictured in the gallery below along with other imperfections such as chips and scratches.

The cabin features front bucket seats and a rear bench upholstered in black vinyl, while woodgrain trim accents the dashboard and the center stack. Features include a Chrysler Solid State AM radio, a Hurst pistol-grip shifter, manual windows, a heater/defroster, and ’Cuda-branded carpeted floor mats. Photographs of the floors with the carpeting and seats removed are presented in the gallery.

The woodgrain-rimmed steering wheel frames a 150-mph speedometer, an 8k-rpm tachometer, a clock, and four supplementary gauges, while a Sun oil-pressure gauge has been added beneath the dashboard. The five-digit odometer shows 84k miles, approximately 10 of which were added by the seller; true mileage is unknown.

A replacement 426ci V8 from Keith Black Racing Engines was installed under previous ownership. The single four-barrel carburetor was adjusted in May 2023 and the oil was changed. The seller reports a clattering noise when the engine is cold and that the dipstick tube has been bent to fit around the exhaust headers. The vehicle’s chassis number indicates that it left the factory with a 426 Hemi under the hood.
