No Reserve: 45-Years-Family-Owned 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo

This 1972 Chevrolet Monte Carlo is said to have been acquired by the seller’s father from its first owner in 1977. The seller subsequently took ownership of the vehicle in 1991 and embarked upon a cosmetic and mechanical refurbishment in 2005 which included a replacement 350ci V8, rebuilding the factory three-speed automatic transmission, removing the factory vinyl roof, repainting the car in metallic green with a black roof, and refurbishing the black vinyl interior. Additional work performed under current ownership is said to have included replacing the front and rear glass, refinishing the brightwork, and replacing the interior and trunk rubber seals. Equipment includes 15″ Rally-style wheels, a Holley Street Avenger carburetor, bucket seats, a lockable center console, and a period-style head unit with an auxiliary input. This Monte Carlo is now offered at no reserve with the removed factory instrument cluster, dashboard trim, radio, and wheel center caps along with a fire extinguisher, a spare tire and jack, manufacturer’s literature, a build sheet, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The factory vinyl roof was removed in 2006 when the vehicle was repainted in Lime Green metallic with a black painted roof. Additional work is said to have included rechroming the bumpers, installation of a replacement windshield and rear-window glass, polishing the stainless-steel trim, and replacement of the aluminum trim. The right quarter panel was damaged and repaired in an incident in the 1980s, and the seller notes the presence of paint bubbling below the passenger-side rear window as well as scratch in the paint that can be seen in photos presented in the gallery below.

Rally-style 15″ wheels with bright trim rings wear Chevrolet-branded center caps and are wrapped in 225/70 BFGoodrich Radial T/A white-letter tires. A jack and matching spare are stored in the trunk. Braking is handled by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. Work performed under current ownership reportedly included replacement of the front-end bushings, ball joints, and tie rods along with the brake booster. The seller notes play in the steering wheel and states that the power steering and rear bushings may require attention.

The interior features front bucket seats and a rear bench that were reportedly disassembled, repaired, and reupholstered in black vinyl with matching replacement door panels and carpeting. Additional work is said to have included installation of front three-point seat belts, sound deadening, and door sill plates along with the replacement of the headrests, woodgrain dashboard trim, instrument cluster, dash and door vents, arm rests, window cranks, headliner, package tray, and interior and trunk rubber seals. Equipment includes a horseshoe-style shifter, a lockable center console, and a period-style head unit with an auxiliary input. The air conditioner has a noisy fan and does not blow cold air, and wear is visible on the bucket seats.

A two-spoke woodgrain-trimmed steering wheel frames a 120-mph speedometer, a tachometer, a clock, and auxiliary gauges. The five-digit odometer indicates 6k miles, and approximately 30k were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The seller states that the fuel gauge reads high and that the clock fuse is disconnected to prevent draining the battery.
