This Ford Ranchero got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1972 Ford Ranchero GT 4-Speed is a Deluxe Marti report verified example with several desirable factory options including a Q-code 351C Cobra Jet V8, 4-speed manual transmission with factory Hurst shifter, power front disc brakes and handling suspension. This is a lifetime California car that was discovered in a Northern California barn where it had been sitting since at least 1991. It has since been made roadworthy again following a major service with new fuel lines, new coolant hoses, new brakes and lines, cleaned gas tank and new fuel lines, and new tires. It is said to run and drive well with 109k miles and still wears its original maroon paint. The sale includes the Marti report and original window sticker both viewable below.

The body is said to be very straight and the paint well-preserved. The car was built in Atlanta and sold new at Hughson Ford on Van Ness Avenue in San Francisco and apparently has been a California vehicle ever since. Rancheros of this vintage were based on the intermediate-sized Ford Torino, but full-sized and compact platforms also were used during the model’s two-decade production run.

The seller says the interior is in excellent condition. It sports new vinyl seat upholstery as well as a new dash pad. The AM radio was a $74.30 option and the seat belts are said to be original. Though the carpet and shift boot might need some freshening, the interior is very presentable as-is.

The engine compartment appears to be original and unmodified. The 351C Cobra Jet engine was rated at 266 horsepower and featured a cast iron intake, dual-point distributor and 4-bolt mains. As part of its servicing prior to road use, the gas tank was cleaned and the coolant hoses, fuel filter and rubber fuel lines replaced. The engine, transmission and differential (3.25 gears) reportedly are original to the car. The engine has the optional cooling package ($23.70) and the California emissions package ($47.70). The seller has installed all new soft gas lines, new soft brake lines, new brake calipers, wheel cylinders, and front pads. New coolant hoses and a new thermostat were installed along with a new fuel sending unit.

The cargo bed shows is scuffed and scratched, but the seller says it wears original paint and is free of corrosion. Tires are new Goodrich radials. The seller has owned it for about a year and says it is a head turner that is very fun to drive. Overall this car has a great factory spec with impressive originality that combine to make it a rare and appealing example.
