This 1973 BMW 2002 was acquired by the seller in 2011 and underwent a bare-metal repaint in 2020. The car is powered by a 2.0-liter M10 inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission and is finished in Fjord Metallic over Blue Skai vinyl. The interior was refreshed in 2022 and features replacement carpets, a BWA steering wheel, a Kenwood CD stereo, and a heater. Additional equipment includes a tii exhaust manifold, a sunroof, 13″ Jensen Healey alloy wheels, lowering springs, and Bilstein shocks. This BMW 2002 is now offered with service records, a spare set of 13″ steel wheels, BMW-branded hub caps, and a clean Washington title in the seller’s name.
The car was stripped to bare metal and repainted in 2020, reportedly following rust repair with a metal patch panel welded on the lower front corners of each door. Sections of the front and rear bumpers were re-chromed at that time and the seller states the aluminum trim was straightened and polished. The body seals, windshield, and taillights are said to have been replaced as well as Hella halogen headlights with protective lens covers installed at the same time. The hood was refinished again in 2023. The seller notes the manually-adjustable antenna is inoperative and whistles at high speeds. Blemishes around the body are shown up close in the gallery, along with photos of the sunroof both open and closed.
The 13×5″ Jensen Healey alloy wheels were mounted with 185/70 Kumho Solus TA11 tires in 2022. Braking is provided by power-assisted front discs and rear drums. Suspension Techniques lowering springs and Bilstein HD shocks were installed by the seller, who states that polyurethane bushings and replacement ball joints and strut top bearings were also fitted. A spare set of 13″ steel wheels are included in the sale.
The headliner was replaced in 2021, and work in 2022 consisted of re-dying the vinyl seats, refurbishing the dash, adding sound deadening to the floors, and replacing the carpets. Coco floor mats and retractable three-point front seat belts have also been added, along with a Kenwood CD stereo wired to Kenwood 6×9″ speakers. There are vinyl repairs on the driver’s seat back and the top of the rear seat, and the seller notes that the defrost lever does not move freely.
The BWA steering wheel frames VDO instrumentation that includes a 120-mph speedometer and a tachometer with a 6,400-rpm redline as well as gauges for coolant temperature and fuel level. The five-digit odometer shows 62k miles, less than 1k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown. The horn has been disconnected.
The 2.0-liter M10 inline-four has been fitted with a 32/36 water choke Weber carburetor as well as a Tii exhaust manifold. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale. Compression test results are visible in the gallery.
A photo of the engine stamping reads 2587574, which matches the car’s serial number plate.
Power is routed to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transmission. The clutch master cylinder was replaced in 2014 and the transmission fluid was changed in 2023.
Photos taken various stages of the cosmetic refresh are provided in the gallery
