This 1973 Volkswagen Thing is finished in orange over black vinyl upholstery and is powered by a 1,600cc flat-four paired with a four-speed manual transaxle. Equipment includes white 14″ steel wheels with hubcaps, a black soft top, removable doors and side curtains, and a folding windshield. The vehicle is said to have been initially registered in Illinois and was acquired in Missouri by the current owner in 2016. This Type 181 is now offered by the seller on behalf of the owner with a clean Missouri title in the name of the seller’s spouse.

The car is finished in orange with black-painted bumpers. Equipment includes a black soft top, a folding windshield, amber fender-mounted marker lights, mismatched side mirrors, and removable doors and side curtains. The car is not equipped with an antenna, the side curtains are cloudy, a crack is present in the plastic rear window, and holes and wear are present on the soft top.

White 14″ steel wheels wear VW-logo hubcaps and are mounted with 195/75 Delta Majestic A/S tires, and a spare wheel and tire are stored in the front trunk. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel drum brakes. The brake lines were reportedly replaced under current ownership. The parking brake is inoperative and corrosion is visible on the wheels.

The front bucket seats and folding rear bench are upholstered in black vinyl and are joined by body-color door panels and metal surfaces. Black rubber mats cover the floors. Wear is visible on the headliner and seats.

The four-spoke steering wheel wears an aftermarket wrap and frames a 100-mph speedometer with an inset fuel gauge. The five-digit mechanical odometer shows 67k miles, approximately 2k of which were added under current ownership. Total mileage is unknown.

The 1,600cc flat-four sends power to the rear wheels via a four-speed manual transaxle. The carburetor is said to have been replaced under current ownership. The seller states an exhaust leak is present and the functionality of the fuel heater is unknown.

Corrosion is visible on underbody components.

The chassis number on the data plate is listed as 1833022598E. The current Missouri title lists the VIN as 1833022598. A redacted photo of the title is included in the gallery.
