This Datsun 280Z got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1978 Datsun 280Z 2+2 was purchased new by a friend of the current owner, who acquired it in 2018. The car is powered by a fuel-injected 2.8L inline-six backed by a 5-speed manual transmission and finished in metallic blue over a black interior. The seller reports that the car was used sparingly as a second vehicle by its first owner and not driven for approximately five years prior to his purchase. Subsequent service included replacement of the tires, battery, exhaust system, ignition components, fuel injectors, and more. This 280Z is offered with a copy of its original sales invoice, manuals, recent receipts, and a clean Missouri title in the seller’s name.

The exterior is finished in light blue metallic and retains factory US-market lighting and impact bumpers. Areas of fading are described in the finish, and the seller notes the presence of a small number of minor chips in the finish. Per the original owner the car did not receive any paintwork during his ownership. Rust repair was performed during the seller’s ownership on the left rear quarter panel aft of the wheel. The rust was reportedly caused by a misplaced drain tube, and photos of the area before and during the repair are provided in the gallery.

A walk-around video is viewable above. Steel wheels are fitted with factory wheel covers, and the seller recently installed new tires. The seller notes that the power antenna does not extend, though the motor runs.

The cabin is finished in black with vinyl seating surfaces and matching carpets. A factory 3-spoke steering wheel and radio have been retained. The air conditioning system has been converted to R134a refrigerant and is said to be functional. Stock instrumentation includes a 5-digit odometer showing 52k miles, approximately 300 of which have been added by the seller.

The 2+2 variant featured a wheelbase 12″ longer than that of a standard S30 to accommodate the rear seats. The roofline was also raised and the rear hatch reshaped. Photos of the trunk and spare tire well are provided in the gallery.

The 2.8L inline-six is equipped with Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and sends power to the rear wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. The car had not been driven for five years prior to the seller’s 2018 acquisition, and service during his ownership included replacement of the battery, exhaust system, distributor cap and rotor, fuel filter, spark plugs, ignition wires, fuel injectors, and more.
