This Datsun 280Z got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1978 Datsun 280Z is one of approximately 1,500 Black Pearl Edition cars produced for the final year of the 280Z and was acquired by its current owner in 2014. The car has been refinished in Black Pearl Metallic over a black interior and is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission. Features include 14” alloy wheels, rear window louvers, and a push-button AM/FM radio. Service in preparation for sale reportedly included changing the brake and clutch hydraulic fluid and replacing the spark plugs, clutch slave cylinder, and hose. This 280Z Black Pearl Edition is now offered on dealer consignment with Connecticut registration.
The car was refinished in Black Pearl Metallic (638) during previous ownership. Additional exterior features include two-tone pinstriping, a front spoiler, rear window louvers, and chrome trim. Scratches in the paint on the hood and around the gas cap are present, as well as a chip in the driver-side stripes. A repaired chip is present on the right quarter panel, and there is oxidation on the rear bumper.
Four-spoke alloy wheels show oxidation in the finish and are mounted with 195/75 Toyo Extensa tires showing 2021 date codes. The brake fluid was flushed in preparation for sale.
The cabin features black vinyl bucket seats together with matching door panels and carpets. A push-button AM/FM stereo is mounted in the dash, and the windows are crank operated.
The three-spoke steering wheel sits ahead of a 160-mph speedometer and an 8k-rpm tachometer, while auxiliary gauges are mounted in the center stack. The five-digit odometer shows 76k miles, only 25 of which were added by the current owner. Total mileage is unknown.
The 2.8-liter L28 inline-six features Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 170 horsepower and 177 lb-ft of torque. The selling dealer replaced the spark plugs and flushed the fuel tank in preparation for the sale.
Power is sent to the rear wheels via a five-speed manual transmission. Service in preparation for sale included changing the clutch hydraulic fluid and replacing the clutch slave cylinder hose.
