1978 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade 3-Speed

Sold for $18,500 on 9/8/22

This 1978 Jeep CJ-7 Renegade was acquired by the seller as a project out of North Carolina in 2020 and underwent a subsequent refurbishment. Work involved a repaint in metallic blue over two-tone gray upholstery, and power is provided by a 232ci inline-six mated to a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Equipment includes 15″ aluminum wheels, 31″ tires, a bikini top, a roll bar, and an aftermarket steering wheel. Additional work performed during current ownership is said to have included rust repairs, overhauling the brake system, and replacement of the carburetor, water pump, distributor, spark plugs, clutch, and fuel tank. This CJ-7 is offered with refurbishment photos, service records, and a clean South Carolina title in the seller’s name.

Finished from the factory in Captain Blue Metallic, the body was removed from the frame and repainted during current ownership. Additional work is said to have involved application of Raptor Liner undercoating as well as replacement of the floor pans, wheel houses, and body mounts. Exterior details include black-finished steel bumpers, Renegade hood decals, black fender arches, a bikini top, and a swing-out spare tire carrier. Hail damage is noted on the hood, and an imperfection in the hood graphic is visible.

Polished 15″ alloy wheels wear 31×10.5″ BFGoodrich All-Terrain T/A K02 tires. The car is equipped with replacement manually-locking front hubs, and stopping power is provided by front discs and rear drums. Service performed during current ownership reportedly included repacking the wheel bearings and replacement of the front brake calipers, front pads and rotors, rear wheel cylinders, master cylinder, brake hoses and lines, and parking brake cables.

The cabin features gray-trimmed Bestop Trailmax II Pro front and rear seats, and the tub has been coated in color-matched Raptor Liner. The truck is equipped with a roll bar, an aftermarket steering wheel, and a heater and defroster. The seller states that the front seat risers, sliders, and sun visors have been replaced.

Instrumentation consists of a 90-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature, fuel level, voltage, and oil pressure. Work carried out during current ownership reportedly included replacement of the coolant temperature and fuel level sending units as well as a lock cylinder and switches for the ignition, turn signals, windshield wipers, and headlamps. The five-digit odometer shows under 90k miles, 300 of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown.

The 232ci inline-six is equipped with a replacement carburetor that was installed by the seller. Additional maintenance carried during current ownership reportedly included a coolant flush and replacement of the water pump, thermostat, starter, distributor, spark plugs, ignition wires, PCV valve, clutch, pilot bushing, main bearing and timing cover seals, exhaust system, and fuel tank.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a three-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case.
