This 1978 Lincoln Continental Mark V is one of 5,159 Diamond Jubilee Edition examples produced for the model year to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the Ford Motor Company. The car is powered by a 460ci V8 paired with a three-speed automatic transmission and is finished in Diamond Blue Moondust (38) over Wedgewood Blue velour. Additional equipment includes the Wedgewood Blue Luxury Group, a Wedgewood Blue (5) landau vinyl roof, 15″ turbine-style cast aluminum wheels, disc brakes, power steering, a sunroof, concealed headlights, opera windows, power-adjustable Comfort Lounge front seats, automatic climate control, cruise control, power windows, and an AM/FM stereo with an eight-track player. This Mark V is now offered by the selling dealer at no reserve with the owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Massachusetts title.
The car is finished in Diamond Blue Moondust (38) and received a repaint under previous ownership. Exterior features include a Wedgewood Blue (5) landau vinyl roof, power sunroof, a rear window defroster, concealed headlights, functional fender vents, pinstripes, and opera windows with Diamond Jubilee script as well as bumper impact strips, and a simulated spare tire carrier. The headlight covers open immediately once the car is shut off per the seller, who also notes that the hood is misaligned in addition to rust bubbles around the body and corrosion at the rear of both frame rails, the inside lip of the trunk lid, and near the right rear wheel opening.
The 15″ turbine-style cast aluminum wheels are mounted with 235/75 thin-whitewall all-season tires. Braking is provided by power-assisted discs at each corner, and the car came equipped from the factory with power steering.
The cabin features power-adjustable Comfort Lounge front seats and a rear bench trimmed in Wedgewood Blue velour, while woodgrain trim adorns the dashboard and door panels. Amenities include air conditioning with automatic temperature control as well as power windows, power locks, CB radio, and an AM/FM stereo with an eight-track player. In August 2023 the window motors were rebuilt. The cruise control is inoperable and a tear is visible in the top of the rear seat.
The two-spoke steering wheel is mounted on a tilting column and frames an 85-mph speedometer, a Cartier-branded clock, an optional digital miles-to-empty indicator, and a fuel-level gauge. The five-digit odometer shows 73k miles, approximately 150 of which were added under current ownership.
The 460ci V8 features a four-barrel carburetor for a factory rating of 210 horsepower. The air conditioning compressor was reportedly replaced in September 2023 and in July 2019 the radiator is said to have been replaced and the carburetor was rebuilt.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. Additional underside images are presented in the gallery.
