This Mercury Marquis & Grand Marquis got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1978 Mercury Grand Marquis two-door hardtop is finished in white over a Camel interior and is powered by a 460ci V8 mated to a three-speed automatic transmission. Features include replacement beige Landau roof trim, air conditioning, an aftermarket stereo, full wheel covers, rear fender skirts, and power accessories. The vehicle spent time in Colorado and was acquired by the seller in 2006, and recent services included replacement of the fuel pump as well as overhauls of the transmission and carburetor.This Grand Marquis hardtop is now offered at no reserve in Texas with additional floor mats, service records from current ownership, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
The exterior is finished in Polar White (9D) with replacement beige vinyl Landau roof trim, as well as gold pinstriping and side molding. Additional exterior features include chrome bumpers and trim, concealed headlights and windshield wipers, and rear fender skirts. During current ownership the rocker panels were refinished and paint correction was performed. Various imperfections in the bodywork are highlighted in the gallery below and include a ding in the rear bumper and paint cracking near the front hood ornament.
Polished 15″ wheels wear Brougham-style covers and are mounted with 235/75 Michelin Radial XH4 white-stripe tires.
The interior features seats upholstered in Camel velour with matching door panels, carpeting, and a two-tone dashboard. Woodgrain trim further accents the interior, which is also equipped with power-adjustable front seats, an AM/FM stereo, digital clock, cruise control, and air conditioning. Tiger-print floor mats have been fitted along with an aftermarket stereo housed in the glovebox, and the removed factory floor mats are included in the sale. The right-side door lock reportedly functions intermittently.
The two-spoke multifunction steering wheel features a wood appliqué and frames an 85-mph speedometer, fuel gauge, and mechanical odometer showing under 58k miles. True mileage is unknown.
The 460ci V8 sends power to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. Service during current ownership is said to include an oil change, a radiator flush, and replacement of the fuel pump and drive belts. In May 2021 the carburetor was overhauled and the transmission servos, clutches, steels, gaskets, and fluid were replaced. The hood insulation pad clips are said to be in need of replacement.
