1979 International Harvester Scout II 4×4 4-Speed

This 1979 International Harvester Scout II was acquired by the seller in 2019 and subsequently refurbished. The truck was refinished in Sunburst Yellow with a white removable hardtop and Rallye-style graphics. Additional work included refreshing the interior with green cloth and vinyl upholstery, installing 15″ Rallye wheels with 31″ tires, and replacing the carpets, headliner, weatherstripping, windshield, and seals. The truck is powered by a 345ci V8 paired with a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. Features include locking front hubs, an AM/FM stereo, and power steering. This Scout II is now offered with refurbishment photos, service records, and a clean Oregon title in the seller’s name.

Work under the seller’s ownership included removing the glass before refinishing the truck in its original Sunburst Yellow with an International White removable hardtop. Additional work included repainting the rear bumper silver, installing white vinyl Rallye-style side and hood graphics, and replacing the windshield, rear glass, weatherstripping, and the brake, turn signal, and marker light assemblies. The seller notes the rear tailgate key cylinder does not work, and the windshield wiper motor was replaced in April 2021.

The 15″ Rallye wheels were installed under current ownership and wear 31×10.5″ Goodyear Wrangler tires. Work completed since the seller’s purchase is said to have included replacing the shocks, parking brake cable, and the rear brake drums.

The seats have been reupholstered in green vinyl with patterned tweed cloth seating surfaces to match the original interior scheme Scouts had in this era. The refurbishment also included installing sound dampening material on the roof and floor, installing aftermarket speakers in the door panels, and replacing the headliner, rearview mirror, and carpets.

The three-spoke steering wheel frames a horizontal 100-mph speedometer and gauges for coolant temperature, oil pressure, the alternator, and fuel level. An under-dash gauge pod was installed during previous ownership and the five-digit odometer shows just over 15k miles, approximately 1k of which were added by the seller. Total mileage is unknown. The seller notes the fuel-level gauge is inaccurate and intermittently does not work.

The 345ci V8 is topped with a four-barrel carburetor and red valve covers. Work completed during the refurbishment is said to have included carburetor and distributor rebuilds, the removal of the catalytic converter and smog pump, and the replacement of the valve cover gaskets, oil pan gasket, exhaust system, radiator, belts, hoses, spark plugs, and wires.

Power is sent to the rear or all four wheels through a four-speed manual transmission and a dual-range transfer case. The seller notes that the front and rear differential covers were refinished black, and service since 2019 has included replacing the differential gaskets and changing the differential and transmission fluids.
