1979 Peugeot 504 Diesel 4-Speed

This 1979 Peugeot 504 sedan is finished in maroon over tan vinyl upholstery and powered by a replacement 2.3-liter diesel inline-four paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The car was acquired by the seller in 2022 from its long-term owner in California and subsequently driven to Louisiana. Equipment includes 14” wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, independent suspension, quad headlights, power front windows, and an AM/FM cassette stereo. This 504 is now offered in Georgia with manufacturer’s literature, service records, workshop manuals, handwritten notes, spare parts, and a clean Louisiana title in the seller’s name.

The car was refinished in maroon under prior ownership and features quad headlights, black rubber impact bumpers, a left-side mirror, and bright metal trim. The seller notes that the sunroof is inoperative, and there is an area of rust at the bottom of the windshield. Dents, dings, and damaged paint around the car are shown in the gallery.

Silver-finished 14” steel wheels wear stainless-steel hubcaps and are mounted with 175/75 Travel Star tires. The car is equipped with an independent suspension system with McPherson struts up front and coil springs out back. Stopping power is provided by disc brakes at all four corners. The power steering pump, shocks, front brake pads, and rear wheel bearings were replaced in 2019. The seller notes suspension noise driving over slow bumps as well as a power steering fluid leak.

The front bucket seats and rear bench were reupholstered in tan vinyl in 2018. Bright trim accents the dash, and additional appointments include an AM/FM cassette stereo and power front windows. Cracks are visible on the dash, and discoloration and wear on the door panels and headliner can be viewed in the gallery. The seller notes noise from the blower motor.

The four-spoke steering wheel frames Jaeger instrumentation consisting of a 130-mph speedometer, a combination gauge, and a clock. The five-digit odometer shows 14k miles, approximately 4k of which have been added under current ownership. The odometer is said to have rolled over four times, and the seller notes that the trip odometer is inoperative. True mileage is unknown.

The replacement 2.3-liter XD2 diesel inline-four was sourced from a 1980 504 station wagon and is said to have been installed in 2004 along with a rebuilt injection pump. Service under current ownership has reportedly included replacement of the radiator, lower coolant hose, battery cables, fuel filter, air filter, and engine oil.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a replacement four-speed manual transmission that was fitted in 2016. The shifter linkage and bushings were replaced in 2022 along with the transmission fluid, according to the seller.

Spare parts including exterior trim, hubcaps, taillights, an ignition switch, gauges, and mirrors will accompany the car along with manufacturer’s literature, workshop manuals, handwritten notes, and service records dating to 2004.
