This 1980 Jeep Cherokee Golden Hawk is finished in Bordeaux Metallic over beige and is powered by a 360ci V8 linked to an automatic transmission and Quadra-Trac 4WD. The truck was reportedly sold new in California and is said to have remained with the first owner until the seller’s acquisition in 2014. Features include tri-tone decals and stripes, a denim cloth interior, gold-colored wheels, and a black brush guard. This example has been optioned with power windows and door locks, an A/C system, and a CB radio. This SJ Cherokee is being offered with a factory build sheet and a clean Montana title in the seller’s name.
The Golden Hawk was a mid-year trim-package offered in 1980 for the CJ-5, CJ-7, and Cherokee models, with the Cherokee Golden Hawk costing an additional $1,049 over standard models. The variant featured a tri-tone stylized hawk decal on the hood, tri-tone striping on the body, “Golden Hawk” decals on the sides and tailgate, gold-colored wheels with a black pin stripe, a black tubular steel brush guard, and bronze toned glass on the rear quarter windows. This example is fitted with a dealer installed rear wind deflector and period Marchal fog lights attached to the brush guard.
15×8″ steel wheels wear Dunlop RV Radial Rover tires up front and Remington Wide Brute tires out back. The Golden Hawk has a 109″ wheelbase and shares the same wide-track axles and fender flares with the SJ Chief and Golden Eagle.
The Golden Hawk model is fitted with “S” level interior trim and features denim cloth upholstery on the seats and door panels. Seating consists of front buckets and a rear bench. Rubber floor mats protect the carpets up front, though the rear cargo area’s carpet has been removed and replaced with a rubber mat.
Amenities include a “Soft-Feel” leather-wrapped sport steering wheel, air conditioning, an AM/FM radio with CB mounted in the glove box, digital quartz clock, power windows, and power locks. A turned aluminum instrument cluster overlay houses the heater/fan controls and an 85-mph speedometer, as well as fuel, temperature, oil pressure, and voltage gauges. The fuel gauge is said to be inoperable. The five-digit odometer indicates 55k miles, with the seller adding around 900 during five years of ownership.
The 360ci V8 is equipped with a two-barrel carburetor and was rated at 175 horsepower when new. Power is sent to all four wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission and a Quadra-Trac 4WD system.
The seller states a service was last performed 200 miles ago, and notes that there are leaks if the truck sits for an extended period of time. A factory build sheet is included in the sale.
