Original-Owner 1981 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 5-Speed

This 1981 Datsun 280ZX 2+2 was initially delivered to W Stephens Classic Cars of Minneapolis, Minnesota, where it was purchased new by the seller and subsequently relocated to California. Finished in Alpine White over red leather upholstery, the car is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six mated to a five-speed manual transmission. Equipment includes 14″ wheels, a vented hood, mud flaps, a rear window wiper, air conditioning, power windows, and a cassette stereo. This 280ZX shows 77k miles and is now offered with an owner’s manual, a window sticker, service records, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Alpine White (805) and is equipped with side pinstripes, chrome trim, and chrome-accented black bumpers. Additional details include a vented hood, mud flaps, a power antenna, and a rear window wiper. Corrosion is noted on the windshield cowl, the right-rear quarter panel has a dent, scratches are located on the roof, and blemishes are visible on the body. A dent on the driver’s side rocker panel has been repaired during current ownership.

Aluminum 14″ wheels are wrapped in 195/70 Michelin Destiny tires with 2005 date codes. Braking is provided by discs at all four corners. The right-front tire sidewall is cracked.

The seats are trimmed in red leather and are complemented by a color-coordinated dashboard, center console, door panels, and carpets. ZX-branded floor mats line the footwells, and additional appointments include air conditioning, power windows, cruise control, and a cassette stereo. The seller notes the turn signal periodically does not operate for right turns, and a replacement flasher relay is included in the sale. Wear is visible on the driver’s seat, the dashboard is cracked, and a scrape is located in the rear cargo area.

The two-spoke steering wheel fronts an 85-mph speedometer, a tachometer, and gauges for fuel level and coolant temperature. A trio of gauges is mounted on the center stack. The six-digit odometer shows 77k miles, all of which were added by the seller.

The 2.8-liter L28E inline-six features Bosch L-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated at 138 horsepower and 149 lb-ft of torque when new. A California emissions test was performed in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission. Additional photos of the underbody are presented in the gallery.

The window sticker lists initial delivery to W Stephens Classic Cars of Minneapolis, Minnesota in addition to colors, standard and optional equipment, and a total MSRP of $15,624.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in California from the initial entry in April 1994 through the most recent entry in April 2008.
