This 1985 Jeep CJ-7 was sold new by Western Motors of Manteca, California and was acquired by the seller from the original owner in July 1992. The vehicle has been set up for off-road use and is finished in chestnut brown metallic with a tan Wrangler hardtop over a tan vinyl interior. Power is provided by a rebuilt, fuel-injected 258ci inline-six paired with a five-speed transmission and a rebuilt Dana 300 transfer case with Teraflex gears. Modifications include 4.56 TrueTrac limited-slip differentials, Warn locking hubs, a Wrangler-style spring-over conversion, Rubicon Express bumpers, a Warn winch, an engine-driven air compressor, and more detailed in the listing. This CJ-7 is offered with records from the seller’s ownership, a removable cargo rack, a clean Carfax report, and a clean California title.
The vehicle has been repainted in chestnut brown metallic, and the seller notes that it is a home paint job and there are imperfections. Some inconsistencies are visible between panels. The original top has been replaced with a 1995 Wrangler removable hardtop with larger side and rear windows, and both CJ-7 full doors and Wrangler half-doors with removable soft uppers are included. The bumpers are from Rubicon Express and incorporate a Warn front winch, front and rear hitch receivers, and outlets for an engine-driven air compressor.
Black-finished steel wheels were mounted with Falken Wildpeak 35″ tires in 2019, and the spare is mounted with a BFGoodrich Radial Mud-Terrain T/A. The seller performed a spring-over conversion in 1997 at approximately 75k miles using 1995 Wrangler components, and also added a CV joint to the rear axle and fitted new shocks at that time. A set of skid rails are affixed to the lower bodywork, and the front axle is equipped with Warn locking hubs.
The seller notes that the tub floor has been refinished with Herculiner spray-on bedliner, and the seats are upholstered in tan vinyl. The truck is equipped with an AM-FM cassette radio and a CB radio with detachable mount on the center console. Instrumentation includes an 85-mph speedometer, a voltage gauge, and an oil pressure gauge. 97k miles are shown, approximately 64k of which were added by the seller.
The 258ci inline-six was rebuilt in 2000 and was fitted with a 4.0L cylinder head and a Mopar fuel injection conversion kit. The seller states the kit is accompanied by a CARB E.O. sticker. The vehicle is equipped with a five-speed manual transmission, and the seller replaced the clutch, throwout bearing, and cover, and resurfaced the flywheel in 2000.
The two-speed Dana 300 transfer case was rebuilt in 2000 with Teraflex 4:1 gears and a twin-stick conversion. The front and rear axles feature 4.56:1 TruTrac limited-slip differentials. The front is also equipped with Superwinch locking hubs, and a rear Dana 44 with Currie axle shafts replaces the factory AMC 20. The power steering box was rebuilt in 2019.
