1985 Audi Ur-Quattro

This 1985 Audi Ur-Quattro was purchased new in California and reportedly remained with the original owner until around 2012. Power is provided by a turbocharged 2.1-liter inline-five, which is paired with a 5-speed manual transmission and a Quattro all-wheel-drive system. The second owner initiated repairs of damage that had led to a total loss in 2006 as outlined below. The seller acquired the car in 2017, and work performed since included completion of body repairs, a repaint, suspension modifications, a conversion to vacuum brakes, the addition of a larger aluminum radiator, a turbocharger rebuild, and replacement of the timing belt, head gasket, clutch master and slave cylinders, and more. Finished in Stone Gray Metallic over gray leather, this Ur-Quattro is now offered with a Carfax report, service records, and a rebuilt California title.

A repaint in Stone Gray Metallic was performed in October 2017 in lieu of the factory Graphite Metallic. Prior to the repaint, bodywork was carried out to complete partial repairs made by the previous owner to address rear-end damage, which was incurred in 2006 when the car reportedly rolled down a hill into a tree. A used windshield was installed following the repaint, and a new rain tray was fitted in November 2018. Stone chips and other imperfections in the finish are pictured in the gallery below.

Factory 15″ Ronal alloys wear Kuhmo Ecsta tires with 2016 date codes, and each corner is shown up close in the gallery. Suspension upgrades added in November 2017 include custom coilovers with Bilstein shocks and AK Motorsports tubular control arms and bushings. New top mounts were also installed at that time. The brakes were converted to a vacuum-assisted system in December 2017, using a brake booster, master cylinder, and power steering pump from a Coupe GT along with a custom power steering hose.

The interior is trimmed in gray leather, and the front seats were reupholstered in April 2018. Black and gray carpets are protected by branded floor mats. The seller notes the passenger seat does not slide and the front seat heaters are not functional. The air conditioning does not blow cold, though according to the seller it had been functioning well previously when fully charged. A cassette player from a 1988 Audi has been added in the factory location.

VDO instrumentation includes a 150-mph speedometer and a boost gauge. The 6-digit odometer shows approximately 112k miles, 2,500 of which have been added by the seller.

The turbocharged and intercooled 2.1-liter WX inline-five produced 160 horsepower when new, which is sent to all four wheels via a 5-speed manual transmission. The turbocharger was rebuilt and balanced in June 2018, and the cylinder head gasket was replaced after the head was cleaned, resurfaced, and pressure-tested prior to reinstallation with new bolts. The timing belt and idler roller were also replaced at that time. A new larger aluminum radiator was added by the seller, and additional work since the seller’s purchase has included:

Cleaning the fuel tank and fuel system
New rear muffler
New clutch kit
Replacing the clutch master and slave cylinders
Resurfacing the flywheel
Two new wheel bearings
Alignment
New engine bay vacuum lines
Oil change, coolant flush, new spark plugs less than six months ago
