1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe 5-Speed

This 1987 Ford Thunderbird Turbo Coupe is finished in Medium Gray Metallic over two-tone Raven and Charcoal cloth upholstery, and power comes from a turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter inline-four linked to a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok rear axle. Features include fog lights, functional hood scoops, 16″ aluminum wheels, Automatic Ride Control, and four-wheel disc brakes with ABS as well as air conditioning, an AM/FM/cassette stereo, and power windows, locks, and mirrors. The car spent two decades in Ohio before it was acquired by the selling dealer in 2023, and it now shows 29k miles. This Turbo Coupe is offered with manufacturer’s literature, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Michigan title.

The ninth-generation Thunderbird rode on Ford’s rear-wheel-drive Fox platform, and this example is finished in Medium Gray Metallic (18). Bodyside moldings feature red accents and Turbo Coupe lettering, and other equipment includes fog lights, functional hood scoops, a rear-window defogger, and dual exhaust outlets. The hood was repainted under current ownership.

Factory 16″ aluminum wheels with Thunderbird-logo center caps are wrapped in 225/60 Bridgestone B420 tires. Turbo Coupes were factory equipped with a driver-adjustable Automatic Ride Control system with comfort and sport suspension modes as well as four-wheel disc brakes with ABS.

The cabin features articulated front sport seats trimmed in two-tone Raven and Charcoal cloth, and matching upholstery extends to the rear bench and the door panels. The driver’s seat is power-adjustable, and both front seats are equipped with power-adjustable lumbar support. Additional interior appointments include power windows, door locks, and side mirrors as well as air conditioning, a warning light module, a digital clock, and an AM/FM/cassette stereo. The two-spoke steering wheel features buttons for the cruise control and frames a 95-mph speedometer and a tachometer with an inset boost pressure gauge as well as readouts for oil pressure, coolant temperature, amperage, and fuel level. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 29k miles, approximately 70 of which have been added by the selling dealer.

The turbocharged and intercooled 2.3-liter Lima inline-four features electronic fuel injection and produced 190 horsepower and 240 lb-ft of torque when new. A dashboard-mounted switch adjusts the engine parameters for either regular or premium fuel. An oil change was carried out in preparation for the sale.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transmission and a Traction-Lok rear axle. Additional photos of the underside are provided in the gallery.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or other damage and lists history in Ohio and Michigan. A gap in entries is present between December 1986 and January 2002.
