This Mercury Cougar got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1987 Mercury Cougar is one of a reported 5,002 20th Anniversary Edition examples produced in Medium Cabernet over Sand Beige leather and Ultrasuede upholstery, and its odometer indicates 60k miles. Powered by a 5.0-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission, it is equipped with commemorative badging, auto-dimming headlights, gold-finished 15″ alloy wheels, power-assisted brakes, a quad-shock rear axle, and power mirrors, locks, and windows as well as air conditioning, digital gauges, heated power-adjustable front seats, cruise control, and a factory cassette stereo. The car has been registered in Massachusetts and Florida, and it was purchased by the seller in December 2023. Work in that year is said to have included changing the oil and replacing the fuel pump and battery. This Cougar is now offered at no reserve with commemorative literature, service records, extra keys, a replacement muffler, a Carfax report, and a clean Florida title in the seller’s name.
All 20th Anniversary Examples were factory-finished in Medium Cabernet with a matching chrome-trimmed grille as well as Midnight Smoke moldings with gold-tone inserts. Additional exterior details include a front air dam, auto-dimming headlights, cornering lamps, power-adjustable mirrors, and a keyless-entry keypad as well as tinted windows, 20th Anniversary Edition badging, a rear window defroster, and a luggage rack atop the trunk lid. A March 1999 entry on the Carfax report notes an accident with another vehicle resulting in damage to the rear of the car. Photos showing a dent in the right-rear quarter panel, condensation in the headlights, and other blemishes in the finish are provided in the gallery below.
Finned alloy 15″ wheels shared with the contemporary Mustang GT are finished in gold and mounted with 225/60 Falken Sincera Touring SN211 tires that have 2015 production-date codes. Factory sport suspension includes quad shock absorbers at the rear, and braking is supplied by power-assisted front discs and rear drums.
The heated power-adjustable front seats as well as the rear bench are upholstered in Light Sand Beige leather with Ultrasuede inserts and Cabernet Red piping. The door panels are trimmed to match, and additional appointments include air conditioning, power windows and locks, driver-seat position memory, woodgrain trim, a digital clock, and a factory cassette stereo with a graphic equalizer and a Premium Sound audio system. The left-side window does not move up or down, and worn driver-seat upholstery is shown in the gallery.
A commemorative 20th Anniversary Edition tag is affixed to the dashboard.
The two-spoke leather-wrapped steering wheel is tilt-adjustable and equipped with cruise-control buttons. Digital instrumentation includes a speedometer, a tachometer, and a coolant-temperature gauge as well as a trip computer and a readout for fuel level. The digital odometer indicates 60k miles, approximately 700 of which were added under current ownership.
The 5.0-liter V8 is equipped with sequential multi-port electronic fuel injection and was factory rated at 150 horsepower and 270 lb-ft of torque. Reported work in 2023 included changing the oil and replacing the battery and fuel pump. The seller states that vapor lock occurs when the fuel level gets low.
Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission.
A Dynomax replacement muffler is included in the sale.
The Carfax report notes the aforementioned 1999 damage entry and lists history in Massachusetts and Florida with a gap between 2000 and 2010 entries.
