This Volkswagen Scirocco got away, but there are more like it here.

This 1987 Volkswagen Scirocco is a Canadian-market example that spent time in Ontario and New York prior to its acquisition by the seller in 2014. Power is from a 16-valve 1.8-liter inline-four driving the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle, and the car is finished in black over a black interior with gray cloth inserts. Modifications include gold BBS-style wheels, a Kamei mesh grille, yellow Koni shocks, sport springs, a Neuspeed chassis brace, stainless steel brake hoses, and Momo controls. The clutch, strut tower bushings, and ignition components are said to have been replaced under current ownership along with a wheel bearing. This Scirocco is offered with a Carfax report and a Maryland title in the seller’s name.

The black finish shows scratches and chips throughout as well as rust under several window seals. The car features a rear spoiler and window wiper, a crank-open sunroof, and fender flares connected by sculpted side skirts and valances. Bosch fog lamps and an H4 headlight conversion were fitted prior to the seller’s acquisition, while a Kamei mesh grille insert and a replacement windshield were installed under current ownership. The Carfax report states that the car was declared a total loss due to fire damage under previous ownership in 2014.

Gold BBS-style 15″ wheels with chrome lips wear Goodyear Eagle Sport tires that should be replaced due to cracked sidewalls. Brake modifications include Eurorotor F1 slotted rotors as well as braided stainless steel hoses. Yellow Koni shocks and sport springs were also fitted by a previous owner. The seller describes replacement of the front shock tower bushings and a front wheel bearing.

The 2+2 cockpit is trimmed in black vinyl with grey cloth inserts and features manually-adjusted sport seats, power windows and locks, an Alpine anti-theft system, and a Volkswagen cassette stereo linked via an Alpine amplifier to Sony speakers mounted in a custom trunk cover. The car came without air conditioning from the factory. New B-pillar trim has been installed under current ownership. The fuse panel cover is missing, the hatch release is inoperable, the driver’s window works intermittently, and the sunroof leaks during heavy rain.

The aftermarket steering wheel, pedals, and shift knob and leather boot are from Momo. VDO instruments include a voltmeter in the center stack as well as a 260-km/h speedometer and a tachometer with a 7,200-rpm redline. The six-digit mechanical odometer shows 191k kilometers (~119k miles), 5k kilometers of which have been added by the seller in seven years.

The 1.8-liter inline-four features Bosch KE-Jetronic fuel injection as well as dual overhead camshafts actuating four valves per cylinder. Horsepower was rated at 123 when new. The seller reports that he has sourced a stock exhaust manifold, performed a synthetic oil change, and installed a K&N air filter as well as replacing the distributor cap, spark plugs, ignition wires, and battery. A Porsche 120-amp alternator is said to have replaced the stock version. A Neuspeed strut tower brace spans the engine bay.
