1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo

This 1988 Lotus Esprit Turbo is powered by a mid-mounted turbocharged 2.2-liter inline-four mated to a replacement five-speed manual transaxle and is finished in Silver Frost over two-tone gray leather upholstery. Equipment includes 15″ OZ Racing wheels, MagnaFlow exhaust components, pop-up headlights, ducted side skirts, a rear wing, power windows and door locks, and a Pioneer CD stereo. The car was initially delivered to Canada and has registration history in Quebec through the seller’s purchase in 2005. An oil change and thermostat replacement are said to have been carried out in 2022. This Esprit Turbo is now offered in Canada with a Lotus Certificate of Vehicle Provenance, manufacturer’s literature, service records, a car cover, spare parts, a US Carfax report, and Quebec registration in the seller’s name.

The car is finished in Silver Frost (A45) and features pop-up headlights, fog lights, power-adjustable side mirrors, dual fuel-filler doors, side air intakes, and a removable sunroof panel as well as an aftermarket rear wing. The seller states that the right headlight mechanism is disconnected and that the decklid’s struts cannot hold it open. A blemish on the decklid is noted, and a close-up photo showing a paint touch-up on the top of the right-rear fender is provided in the gallery below.

Lotus-branded 15″ OZ Racing alloy wheels are mounted with 195/60 front and 235/60 rear Dunlop G/T Qualifier tires. Stopping power is provided by four-wheel disc brakes. Scrapes on the wheels are depicted in the gallery.

The bucket seats are upholstered in two-tone gray leather that extends to the center console and door panels. Additional appointments include power windows and door locks, Lotus-logo carpeted floor mats, and a Pioneer CD stereo. The car is equipped with air conditioning, although its blower does not work. The seller states that the right-side window motor has been repaired but that the window raises and lowers slowly.

The leather-wrapped steering wheel fronts VDO instrumentation consisting of a 260-km/h speedometer, a 7k-rpm tachometer, and gauges for voltage, oil pressure, boost pressure, coolant temperature, and fuel level. The speedometer was replaced in 1999. The five-digit odometer shows 29k kilometers (~18k miles), approximately 14k of which were added under current ownership. The Carfax report notes a potential odometer rollback in April 2002, and true mileage is unknown.

The mid-mounted turbocharged 2.2-liter Type 910 inline-four was rated at 215 horsepower and 192 lb-ft of torque when new. The seller states that the thermostat was replaced and the oil was changed in 2022 and that the car has not been driven much in the last four years.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle that was replaced in 2000. A MagnaFlow catalyst and muffler were fitted in 2013.

A Lotus Certificate of Vehicle Provenance is included in the sale along with manufacturer’s literature, service records, a car cover, and spare parts.

The Carfax report notes the aforementioned 2002 potential odometer rollback, indicates no accidents or other damage, and lists history in Quebec from the initial 1993 entry through the latest entry in 2011.

The car does not have a title, as it is registered in a province that does not issue titles for vehicles. It is being sold on its registration.
