18k-Mile 1989 Jeep Wrangler Islander 5-Speed

This 1989 Jeep Wrangler Islander was purchased new at Farrish Jeep in Fairfax, Virginia and was reportedly used as a lake house vehicle by its original owner until acquired by the seller in summer 2018. Now showing 18k miles, the truck is finished in white with a grey cloth interior and powered by a 4.2-liter inline-six mated to 5-speed manual transmission and 2-speed transfer case. Service performed under current ownership included installation of a new carburetor, an oil change, and a tune-up. This YJ is offered with records since new, a clean Carfax report, a manual, a window sticker, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.

Available from 1988 through 1993, the “Islander” option package featured body-colored fender flares and side steps, sunset graphics on the lower body and hood, and Islander logos. This example wears a grey Bestop soft top showing a 1989 date code, and the condition of the paint and trim is shown up close in the gallery below.

The optional 15″ five-spoke wheels are mounted with Goodyear Wrangler Radial tires sized 225/75 at all four corners.

The cabin is trimmed in grey cloth upholstery, carpets, door panels, and plastics. Features include a center console with cupholders, an Alpine cassette stereo in place of the factory unit, and Jeep-branded rubber floor mats.

The 6-digit odometer shows 18k miles, 100 of which were added during the seller’s ownership.

The 4.2-liter inline-six produced 112 horsepower and 210 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine is mated to a 5-speed overdrive manual transmission and a Command-Trac part-time transfer case. A recent service commissioned by the seller included a new carburetor, oil change, and tune-up.

The window sticker shows an MSRP of $14,628 and is included in the sale along with service records from new and a factory owner’s manual.

The 2019 Carfax report indicates no accidents or other damage with Virginia registration since new.
