2,900-Mile 1989 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans Am Pace Car

This 1989 Pontiac Firebird Turbo Trans Am is one of 1,555 20th Anniversary Pace Car editions produced. It was delivered new to Hughes-Lytle Pontiac in Gastonia, North Carolina, and spent time in Ohio before being acquired by the selling dealer in 2020. Finished in white over a Camel leather interior, the car shows 2,900 miles and is powered by a turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 mated to a four-speed automatic transmission and a limited-slip differential. Additional equipment includes removable Lexan T-top roof panels, 16″ basketweave wheels, air conditioning, cruise control, power windows and locks, and a Delco AM/FM cassette stereo with a graphic equalizer. This Turbo Trans Am is offered by the selling dealer with a window sticker, original sales paperwork, manufacturer’s literature, a build sheet, advertising materials, 1989 Indy 500 ticket stubs, a copy of the Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin, an accident-free Carfax report, and a clean Ohio title.

All of the 1,555 20th Anniversary Pace Cars were finished in white (40), and exterior features include a body kit with a rear spoiler, removable Lexan T-top roof panels, pop-up headlights, quad stainless steel exhaust outlets, “Official Pace Car” graphics on both doors, and Turbo Trans Am, Indianapolis Speedway, and 20th Anniversary cloisonné badging.

Factory 16″ basketweave wheels with gold centers and polished lips are mounted with the 245/50 BFGoodrich g-Force Sport Comp-2 tires showing 2021 date codes. All Turbo Trans Ams were factory-equipped with a WS6 suspension and high-performance four-wheel disc brakes.

The 2+2 cabin features Camel leather upholstery along with color-coordinated carpeting, door panels with cloth inserts, and a black dashboard. Appointments include air conditioning, a Delco AM/FM cassette stereo with a graphic equalizer, and power windows, locks, and mirrors.

The leather-wrapped multifunction steering wheel fronts a 140-mph speedometer and a 6k-rpm tachometer with an inset boost-pressure gauge along with additional readouts for oil pressure, coolant temperature, fuel level, and voltage. The six-digit odometer shows 2,900 miles.

The turbocharged 3.8-liter V6 was shared with the contemporary Buick GNX and was factory rated at 250 horsepower and 340 lb-ft of torque. An oil change was completed in August 2022, and the seller states the hoses, belts, and battery have been replaced.

Power is sent to the rear wheels through a four-speed automatic transmission equipped with a high-capacity cooling system and a limited-slip differential.

The framed window sticker lists colors and options along with a suggested retail price of $31,223. A build sheet, original sales paperwork, 1989 Indy 500 ticket stubs, manufacturer’s literature, advertising materials, and a copy of the Manufacturer’s Certificate of Origin are included in the sale.

The Carfax report shows no accidents or damage and lists history in Ohio through the most recent entry in May 2021. An open manufacturer’s safety recall associated with the seat belt buckles is listed in June 1990, and gaps in entries are present between June 1990 and June 2000 in addition to May 2005 to May 2014.
