This Volkswagen Jetta got away, but there are more like it here.
This 1989 Volkswagen Jetta GLI 16V is one of 1,500 Wolfsburg Editions produced for a single-model year, all of which feature Helios Blue Metallic paint, color-matched 15″ BBS RA wheels, Recaro front seats with patterned cloth inserts, a sunroof, air conditioning, power accessories, and body-color mirror caps. Power is provided by twin-cam 1.8L inline-four paired with a five-speed manual transaxle, and modifications include a Borla exhaust system, NEUSPEED sway bars, Bilstein shocks, and NEUSPEED springs. The car was acquired by the selling dealer in March 2020 and subsequent work consisted of an oil change and a timing belt service, along with replacement of the tires, water pump, shifter bushings, accessories belts, and valve cover and intake manifold gaskets. Now showing 66k miles, this Wolfsburg Edition GLI 16V is offered by the selling dealer in Florida at no reserve with recent records, factory manuals, a clean Carfax report, and a clean Maryland title.
All 1,500 Wolfsburg Edition examples were finished in Helios Blue Metallic (LA5Y) and feature black bumpers and trim, a front air dam with integrated brake ducts, plastic fender flares, body-color mirrors, and a rear spoiler. Additional equipment includes Wolfsburg fender badges, a crank-operated sunroof, and GLI 16V badging, and door handle guards are fitted. Wear is shown on the trim.
BBS RA 15″ basketweave wheels with color-matched centers were standard on the Wolfsburg Edition, and were recently wrapped in 205/50 Yokohama S.Drive tires. The suspension is modified with Bilstein shocks with NEUSPEED springs, along with a front upper strut bar and NEUSPEED sway bars. Braking is handled by power-assisted discs at all four corners. The selling dealer states this example is reportedly one of 250 cars fitted with the optional anti-lock system.
The cabin features Recaro Trophy sport seats up front with cloth patterned inserts, along with matching bolstered rear seats. Amenities include air conditioning, a golf ball-style shift knob, 16V-branded floor mats, a Kenwood stereo with aftermarket speakers, and power windows, mirrors, and locks. Cracks are noted on the dashboard.
A four-spoke steering wheel with an aftermarket wrap fronts instrumentation that includes 140-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 7,200-rpm redline, a digital clock, and supplementary gauges. Just under 66k miles are shown on the six-digit odometer.
The 16-valve 1.8L DOHC inline-four features Bosch KEÂ-Jetronic fuel injection and was rated from the factory at 123 horsepower, which is sent to the front wheels through a five-speed manual transaxle. Service performed during the selling dealer’s ownership reportedly included:
- Timing belt service
- Water pump
- Valve cover and intake manifold gaskets
- Accessory belts
- Shifter bushings
- Coolant flush
- Oil change
A Borla exhaust system replaces factory components. The selling dealer notes corrosion on the rocker panels, and additional photos of the underside, suspension, and brakes are viewable below.
The March 2020 Carfax report lists no accidents and shows history in Maryland, Washington DC, and Virginia beginning in 1992 through its most recent entry in March 2020.
